Guys finally I can reveal what I have been working on for the last couple of months.  From today the Few Good Men are officially supported by  So, what does this mean to the Few Good Men Wargaming Club.  Well, to be honest the actual impact on how we run things and operate will be exactly the same as it has always been.  It is still our club and still controlled by me… however the Scenario Depot III and The Proving Grounds II is now ‘sponsored’ by Battlefront who liked what I had built and approached me about it becoming the natural successor to their Repository system which will in time cease to exist.  To round everything out nicely GreenasJade and I have also formed a partnership and I have completely redesigned the CMMODS website and brought it bang up to date.

Battlefront has released a ‘soft’ announcement on the forums over there.  You can see this announcement below.

Gamers love options and so do we.  We’ve tried to provide as many options as possible to our customers over the years, however there’s only so much we can do and do well.  One of the things which we haven’t done as well as anybody, including us, would like is providing customers with options for new battles, mods, and opponent finding.  Each of these three services need a level of dedication and energy that we could not spare without harming the other things that we do.  The most important of which is making new games!  As a result our ability to support these important services has not been as strong as it should be.  The obvious solution was to find someone who could.  Finally, that has happened!
Battlefront is very pleased to announce a formal partnership with three distinct services to provide battles, mods, and opponent finding.  Some of you old timer CMx1 fans might find some of this familiar, which is correct since some of the great people behind these websites have been around for a long time.  Now thoroughly updated for CMx2, they are ready to take on new challenges.
The Proving Grounds II and The Scenario Depot III : Resurrected by Bootie this is the go to place for the playtesting of scenarios and the sharing of completed scenarios, maps and campaigns.
The Proving Grounds II
The Scenario Depot III
CMMODS III is the successor to the CMMODSII we all know and love.  Bootie & GreenasJade have been working hard with other members of the community to get as much content as possible transferred from the old CMMODS site to the new one and finally are ready to go.  The old CMMODSII will still be around but will eventually only be kept for CMx1 mods.  Be sure to use this site to upload and download your mods.  The new CMMODS III supports all flavours of the CMX2 catalogue of games.
The Few Good Men.  The FGM have been around for more than a decade and excel at running tournaments and campaigns for CMx2 as well as still supporting CMx1.  Opponents are easy to pick up and they are a friendly bunch.  In addition they will also be hosting the annual Battlefront CMx2 Tournament so keep your eyes peeled for more information regarding that.
The Few Good Men
The current Battlefront Repository service will remain open for the time being, but will eventually shut down.  The content that is currently hosted will be moved over to the new services at a steady pace.  When all the content is migrated the Battlefront Repository will cease to exist.
We are all very excited about this partnership and look forward to continuing a long relationship on a more formal basis for many years to come!

The ‘soft’ forum announcement is only the initial information being released, in the coming days there will be a shorter post on the Battlefront home page and eventually Battlefront will inform their press contacts in a press release.  All very exciting Im sure you’ll agree.

It is certainly nice to have our site and hard work over the last decade or so recognised by the company behind the games we all love and devote so much time too.  Looking forward the four sites, CMMODSIII, The FGM, TSDIII and TPGII will provide the support to really let Battlefronts CMX2 series of games (and beyond) bear fruit in centralised locations where fresh content will be added regularly to keep the Combat Mission series right at the top of the genre.

On a personal level Im glad the announcement has finally been made as I have been biting my tongue for the past 2 months… of course I couldn’t say anything until contracts and conditions were agreed etc. and now that I have an insider eye to what BF is planning ahead it means I can plan in advance myself behind the scenes to support the titles from the day of launch across the breadth of our sites.  The future certainly looks bright and in my opinion returns us to the glory days of CMx1 where CMMODS, The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot were the mainstay for Combat Mission players.

And of course we as a club have also been entrusted with the running of the ‘new’ Battlefront annual tournament with players from across the length and breadth of the world wide web converging on our site to take part in what can only be described as the pinnacle of Combat Mission gaming.  Who will truly be the worlds best CM player?

In closing I’d like to thank Steve and Chris from Battlefront for their belief in us and for approaching us initially and always I’d like to extend the hand of friendship to any new members who decide to visit our site.  We have a great bunch of guys here and we look forward to forming new relationships and tackling new opponents as time goes by.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Heartfelt congratulations, Bootie! Kudos for all your efforts. I know GAJ has worked feverishly on CMMODSIII. I most look forward to the New Proving Grounds and Scenario Depot. Well done!

  2. Thanks Badger73 and for all the hard work you did yourself in relation to the mod transfer… I think we all had many late nights getting that sorted. 🙂

  3. Good news – a question though. Who is doing the migrating of the Repository content to this portal? I’m happy to move my own stuff.

  4. I will be in charge of the migration of all scenarios and GreenasJade is in charge of the mod transfers. If you wish to help out for sure just re-upload your content to The Scenario Depot. All help gratefully accepted.

  5. I just peeked over the the new CMMODS – looks great, I see my content got migrated and am very happy with how it looks. Good job as always, Bootie. Some if not all of the CMMODs uploads I did were duplicates of Repository content so if I get a chance I can weed them out.

  6. Congratulations, Bootie. This is excellent news and a fantastic recognition of everything you have done for the Combat Mission community. Well done, and I look forward to the future!

  7. Yes Congratulations Bootie for your continues interest which keeps the Club Active, Also to all Tourney developers who make the Club interesting to New members and of course the older members as well

  8. Jolly good show Bootie. This site looks sooo much better than the old repository. I already uploaded all my stuff, so that saves you some work 🙂
