German anti-tank rifle
The 13.2mm Panzer Abwehr Gewehr M1918
The worlds first anti-tank rifle, this was the only Anti-Tank rifle in use during WW1 and capable of penetrating around 20mm of armour at 100 metres, and 15mm at 300 metres when striking at 90 degrees.
Early British tanks were protected by no more than 12mm of armour plate, so this was a fairly effective weapon.

My great-uncle Alf (my grandmas brother, below) copped it in WW1 many years before I was born, and while I can't help thinking what a waste of his and millions more lives, I also can't help thinking what an honour it is for any man to have an epitaph that reads 'Killed in Action'

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (2 May 1892 – 21 April 1918) was a German fighter pilot known as the "Red Baron". He was the most successful flying ace of World War I, being officially credited with 80 confirmed air combat victories.
Richthofen was a member of an aristocratic family with many famous relatives.

The British Mark I was a tracked vehicle developed by the British Army during World War I and the world's first combat tank, entering service in August 1916, and first used in action on the morning of 15 September 1916. Born of the need to break the domination of trenches and machine guns over the battlefields of the Western Front, it was the first vehicle to be named "tank", as an expedient to maintain secrecy and to disguise its true purpose. It was developed to be able to cross trenches, resist small-arms fire, travel over difficult terrain, carry supplies, and be able to capture fortified enemy positions. It is regarded as successful in many respects, but suffered from many problems due to its primitive nature.

Ernst Udet (April 26, 1896–November 17, 1941) was the second-highest scoring German flying ace of World War I. He was one of the youngest aces and was the highest scoring German ace to survive the war (at the age of 22). His 62 victories were second only to Manfred von Richthofen, his commander in the Flying Circus.

Frontline trenches. Group of French servicemen, "Poilus", in front of the entrance of a cote. Woods of Hirtzbach. (Haut-Rhin. France. June 16th, 1917)
"Poilus" (hairy) is the nickname to French WWI soldiers, since they could not afford the luxury of regular shaving. It is a term of affection, especially now.

Boyaux were trenches or tunnels of communication that provided covered passage between parallels and from parallels to batteries in an attack by regular approaches. Boyaux for infantry were usually just wide enough for the passage of two men (4 to 5 feet); dimensions could be increased when it was necessary to pass artillery through the trenches rather than move guns and howitzers into position over open ground under cover of darkness. Boyaux were usually advanced from covered positions in rear of the trenches of an attack and from parallel to parallel in zig-zag patterns that defiladed the trenches from defensive artillery and small arms fire.
Cezaro means Cesar in French, just like soldiers gave names to the trenches in WWI.
