Firepower Table

Because I'm new at this, I'm trying to decipher the various firepower tables that are accessible for each personnel unit, i.e. a rifle unit or a Lt.s unit. Firepower ratings are laid out according to distances, but I haven't a clue how to translate this into meaningful terms. For example, a LMG shows that it can fire out to 250m, but I never seem to accomplish anything at that distance. In other words, I don't know what these numbers realistically mean.

Can anyone give me some tips how to utilize this information?

Behind the distance number there is a firepower number. At 250 meters for a sole LMG that firepower number will be low. So, it won't have that big an effect.More so if the target is in some sort of cover. And the higher the experience level of the troops you're shooting at the less effect the shooting will have. Shooting at 250 meters with a LMG unit is wste of ammo in my opinion.
Try the same thing with a HMG and you will see more result.

Personally, I use LMG units as scouts or sentry's or I attach them to a squad for some extra firepower.
