Howdy folks,
You guys and your awesome work has inspired me to get back into modeling. Have a couple of ideas for a neat diorama story. My question is, what do you guys use for snow? I'd like to be able to make footprints/tracks in it and have it set and not all loose. Also, i see you guys use natural grasses, etc for effect. Is using twigs and sticks to simulate logs and such ok or does it look to much like an actual twig and ruin the desired effect?

Below are 3 pics from a build I did. You can buy bags of fake snow from any good modelling shop. Its light and powdery... you basically sprinkle it onto a light coating of glue or sprinkle it on then use hairspray to set it.

As for the twig question. In the 3rd picture you can see the 'blasted' tree... I picked this twig up int he garden and it looks well.

Stems & twigs as well as pebbles, have long made their way onto my miniatures stands as well. Nice little touch of eyewash.

And yes, since I hail from Ca., those stems...

you can also use plain plater of paris powder sprinkled over a base then misted with water and then re-sprinkled to produce a nice snow effect.

I have a diorama in the 2011 build. I used the brissle off a paint brush and painted it to color to make my grass.
