Has anyone tried this utility for zipping up files. It seems it has a much better compression rate for zipping and certainly in the few tests I have done it works really well.

I zipped a mod of 11.8MB with WinZip and the zip file was 7.98MB.... it was only 3.8 with 7Zip!!

Most guys I know use WinZip. Maybe this is the way forward with the files in CM : Normandy expected to be quite big.

Wow, compressed file is only 30%+/- that of the original... Impressive.

I use WinRAR myself, no complaints.

Tools in the tool belt...

I asked my wife to check it out for me.

I've been using this nice little tool for yeasr now and all I can say is: It's better. Maybe not the best, but certainly better than ordinary WinZip. In addition it can handle most of the common formats - and you can even make 'ordinary' ZIP files with it. :)

Impressive, I'll use that when CMN comes out.

I think WinZip has default setting to medium compression. Try change it to best compression, and try to compare them (do that for 7zip too).

Ok... a 4.27 GB file.

WINZIP (Highest Compression) - 4.24 GB = 30 MB saved.

7Zip - 3.94 GB = 330 MB Saved.

7Zip is superior.

That looks good. I'll remember that for packing large files.
btw, what kind of file did you try to compress?

It works well in general. Another interesting coincidence is that some modding communities entirely rely on 7Zip these days because the compression rate is superior to regualr WinZip...
