This is an absolutely amazing book detailing one mans experience of fighting the Russians on the Eastern Front.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to get down to the nitty gritty soldiers thoughts on the war in the East.

At times he reflects on the situation about Barbarossa whilst at other times he describes how his Kampfgruppe fleeing west is molested by wandering T-34 packs.

Its a book you will find hard to put down.

It was wrote by Henry Metelmann and an interesting link about him can be found here.

Bootie, thank you for this tip. I enjoyed very much this book.
Metelmann did learn Russian during the war and often spoke to Russian POWs, civilians, Hiwis... He wanted to understand the "Bolsheviks" and was very open-minded about them. Thats why you will find out very much about the Russian folk too.
