Earl of Grey

...on a cloudy day a US combat group atempts to secure a bridge over a river near a small town called Remagen... What I do have are only impressions of a few memorable moments of a really intense battle. I just tried to capture some of the suspense - I hope you like it!

- Unteroffizier Rudorfer in his trusty Panther moving into firing position

- Rudorfer's squadmate, Feldwebel Schreyer
Feldwebel Schreyer was credited with 2 Shermans, 1 Greyhound and 9 halftracks before his ammunition ran out and he had to retreat; Schreyer was wounded by a MG salvo.

- Rudorfer moving in to help Schüller's Pak
Two Paks, commanded by the Unteroffiziere Stäcker and Schüller, together accounted for 1 Sherman, 3 Greyhounds and 12 halftracks; both guns were destroyed and only Stäcker with three of his gun crew survived.

- Rudorfer's damaged Panther
Unteroffizier Rudorfer was credited with 1 Priest and 3 halftracks before his Panther got his barrel ripped off by a lucky bazooka hit; Rudorfer was wounded in the battle but managed to get his Panther and crew back to safety.

- Leutnant Fürstenberg of sPzJgAbt654 racing towards Remagen to help bolster the defense

- Fürstenberg's knocked-out Jagdpanther - if you look closely you can see the penetration holes the Hellcat's projectiles left
Leutnant Fürstenberg was credited with 1 Hellcat, 2 Shermans, 1 Priest and 3 halftracks; got knocked out by another Hellcat, but made it safely back to his own lines with three of his crew wounded.
Special note: Feldwebel Althoff and his trusty Tiger came too late for the actual battle, but Althoff managed to take revenge for Fürstenberg and knocked out the Hellcat that got him (his only kill).

- The aftermath...

- The results
Of course I'd have done worse against a human opponent, but I was vastly outnumbered right from the beginning. As you can see from the screens, the AI did flank my positions and actually managed to break through my defense line once the Paks and Panthers were out of comission (the infiltrating units having moved on or been taken care of in the above screen); the Jagdpanther managed to survive about six or seven turns before a Hellcat got him and the Tiger arrived two turns before the end but made a kill with his first (and only) shot.
More to come!
