This is the first time I have had this happen. Iwas the attacker and Andres men were surrendering like fleas coming off a dog after a good flea bath. A squad surrendered...and 10 seconds later it changed it's mind...my tank is now in the process of machimne gunning them down.

Yup if you get an officer (Plt HQ, CO Hq etc) close enough to them they will come back under your control, they will be stripped of any weapons however.

The moment that a squad surrenders it loses its weapons so even if they change their mind they cant do much except than running fast.

I've never run prisoner tests because I can't get prisoners for tests, so I can only go on experience.
From what i've seen, i think they're a bit like flags and are 'controlled' by whichever side has got units near them.
And if they're miles from either side, I think they revert to being non-prisoners.
I've definitely seen them re-join their own side when I haven't got units near them but the enemy has.
So whenever I take prisoners, I don't send them marching to the rear, I try to keep them near my units instead, or at least drop off a half-squad or something to guard them.
Here are what people have said in other forums, there are different opinions-

"Move them to an area or location you control! Otherwise they can return to their unit unarmed! Leaders however can be used again and use their leadershipmover other units!"

"You get twice the number of points for capturing prisoners than for casualties"

"With enemy POWs in my control, I always give them immediate marching orders to my rear"

"Just make sure you send an escort with them, or as soon as they get clear of your troops they'll 'escape' (ie revert back to enemy control)
Incidentally I remember reading a post by somebody in a CM forum a while ago, he said that if you've captured enemy troops, keep them near your men as 'human shields' because the program won't allow the enemy player to call in arty barrages near the prisoners for fear of hitting them"

"I didn't know POWs needed an escort; I thought they wouldn't revert unless they had friendlies nearby. I guess I rarely capture units anyway, and it's usually very near the end of the game most times"

"Don't know about CMBB or CMAK, but you definately don't need escorts in CMBO and the AI also lets you target on both onboard and offboard arty on top of them if you so wish. You can even area fire troops with a clear line of sight to them"

"I'm not sure they do need an escort I think their owner needs to rescue them with troops of his own, which wont happen if they have an escort"

No one that you know of, there could be a HQ unit hidden nearby that you havn't found.

Now from watching the movie over and over...it seems that someone was area shooting at them and that is when they went back into their fox holes...It could also be them watching my tank machine gun down their crew friends in the open... Oh well i will do what i have to to continue the victory march.

Unarmed Mg Team:
(He decided to surrender after coming under some medium range rifle fire... Minutes later, he had a chance of heart, tossed his weapon, and came back on side...)
