Hey nice to meet you all. I've been doing strategies for a long time in very wide variety of things, but I've been keeping an eye on the combat mission series and its really peaked my interest. I've played games like it, graviteam tactics and such, but the aspect of PVP and tournament ladders seems great and I wanna get involved and learn how to play like a real field commander.

I currently don't own any of the games but I wanted to get some info on them before making the purchases to see which are the most popular or best of the series

Thanks again!

Hello and welcome!

For which games are most played, I'd say quite a few people here own all if not most of the WW2 games.
But the base game that most people seem to have any play often would be CM - Battle For Normandy, with the upgrade packs.

They have demo versions on the Battlefront website, should be worth checking out if you're interested!

Welcome, @Dlw4456. You have probably joined one of the most Combat Mission savvy groups around. :)
How did you discover Combat Mission games if I may ask?
Please be patient with yourself trying to learn the game. It has a very high learning curve. It took me several months before I thought I understood it. Years later, I still struggle to play it really well. There are several CMBN tutorials on YouTube. Check 'em out.
Which title to buy really depends on what you enjoy and what you want to do. I personally don't play any of the modern time-frames primarily because it's of lower interest to me than WW2 and I just can't find the time or money for everything that's out there. ;)
Most of The Few Good Men seem to favor the WW2 titles; at least those are the titles played most often H2H and in our regular tournaments. The mechanics are the same for all four (4) titles; CMBN, CMFI, CMRT, and CMFB. Once the demo's help you decide whether you like the game itself, your area of interests will likely drive which one(s) you buy; MTO, ETO, Ostfront, or Westwall. CMBN is the "richest" title in that it is the oldest offering and therefore has the most user supplementary scenarios, campaigns, and mods. I find CMFI/GL a remarkably sweet little title with a lot of fun situations to play. CMRT has a very loyal following of aficionado's. CMFB is a natural evolution following CMBN.

Whatever you pick, you can't go wrong. Also be aware that there is a lot of community provided information about these games on Battlefront's own forums (http://community.battlefront.com/). And don't be afraid to ask anything about the games here at FGM. You will certainly receive copious and diverse thoughts, opinions, and feedback . . . :shocknaz:

Good luck and good gaming!

Hello and welcome,

just to help decipher things a bit for starters;

WW2 titles

CMBN = Combat Mission - Battle for Normandy: Covers well errr.. the fighting in the Normandy countryside. There a a few modules for this which provide other theatres as well. Notable terrain: Bocage.

CMFI = Combat Mission - Fortress Italy: Despite the title, this game covers the invasion of Sicily although the additional module for the game does in fact cover mainland Italy. Notable terrain: Hills.

CMRT = Combat Mission - Red Thunder: Covers the Eastern Front fighting between Germany and the Soviet Union: Notable terrain: Large open spaces suitable for armoured warfare.

CMFB = Combat Mission - Final Blitzkrieg: Covers the time around the Battle of the Bulge - Germanys last offensive against the Western Allies: Notable terrain: Mud, snow, woods.

Modern titles

CMSF = Combat Mission - Shock Force: Middle East setting

CMBS = Combat Mission - Black Sea: Eastern Europe/Russia setting

There are others including an older series but I think the above is enough to get you understanding some of the lingo.

Hello Dlw, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN! :)
Good to have you with us!

CMRT is my favourite.

And CMFI.

Not to forget CMFB.

And CMBN with CW Forces Module (Holland/Arnheim) is a must have, of course.

But I'm waiting for CMFS II to be honest because I really really love CMBS! ;) (and CMSF 1)
