Battle Brothers -- bloody addictive game

Darkest Dungeon is awesome! I haven't played it in a few months. The reason I quit is because I leveled up all my characters and they have such nice gear that I'm afraid to take them into the final dungeon. Death is permanent in DD and I lost a couple of my favorite chars attempting the last dungeon. Perhaps I'll get my nerve back up...

But yea, @Wellsonian , I bet you would love Battle Brothers.

FDL! Just played the 2nd scenario titled "Early Battle(?)" and bad guys stole my lunch money. A while into the battle I realized their necromancer in the back was resurrecting the bad guys as fast as I could kill them! <end battle>

Clearly the apparent only way to win this is to charge their line as fast as possible at the start and don't stop until someone can reach the necromancer. Pretty nasty set up for only the 2nd scenario. Although I did get a "tip" pre-battle that said "Not all battles can be won." Uh, is this one of those?

There were also some bad guys that could drop 4 attacks on my brother in one turn and kill him straight up. I don't see in the game how I can tell what the enemy attacks are or get any kind of intel on their abilities. Do I need to read more?

I have never bothered with the scenarios (they are basically designed to show off the game and teach techniques) ... better to just launch yourself into a campaign with beginner setting and learn that way along the way ... (you'll die a lot) ... you can't get any intel on enemy abilities before they rain hurt on you in a battle -- although good tip is: better their kit, better their abilities. If they look too strong, you can always make a dash for the left side of the map and retreat off it.

There is a Battle Brothers Wiki page that has a lot of details ... there's a lot here that I haven't run into either yet, as it's randomly generated... http://battlebrothers.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Brothers_Wikia

Yes -- necromancers are nasty -- best way is to either hit them hard, or absorb their attack with shield wall and get some archers and other guys to dash around the flanks to try and reach him to take him out as quickly as possible.
Your guys will eventually tire out if they fight too long.

Oh, and wait until you run into teleporting kopesh-wielding Necrosavants ... those are just real party-poopers ... and dire-wolf-riding goblins are quite the nasty handful too :D

Like what I see. This game is a lot deeper than I imagined.

Yes, the game is at the same time very simple/superficial yet also deep at the same time -- lots of it very repetitive, but every battle is subtly different with constant shifts in terrain of random maps, your skills/equipment ... your enemy skills and kit... it's got that "just one more" aspect to it...

Damn. Tried 2 more times. The 2nd time I at least managed to bring down the Necromancer with my archers, but by then the enemy numbers were just too great. And as I made my last stand a bad guy resurrected behind me. What was with that? {sigh}

Off to start my first campaign. Long live the monTara Vandals. Yeah, like that's gonna happen. :(

Must say I'm doing a damned sight better at the start of my first campaign than I did on the 2nd scenario! Played several hours now and getting a feeling for it. Only lost one man so far to something that looked like a black dragon that pretty much ate him in one gulp (gulp). Found a town that sells weapons and armor at prices waay above my checkbook balance, but was a nice picture of things to wish for.

Missed a contract because I argued over the price too long and then demanded pay up front. Told me to bugger off! :p

Sounds like a Nachzehrer -- they feed on their own dead to become meaner and larger -- if you manage to kill the one that swallowed one of your guys within I think 2 turns, your guy emerges again alive, covered on goo and slime and a little shaken for the experience.

Can individuals flee when they each the left side of the map or does the whole team have to be there to complete the process?

Started new campaign after learning stuff. Biggest problem, among others, was I just could not earn enough crowns to repair my band after combat. No money, no chance.

Whoever has reached the left side of the map where those white flag markers are gets away ... I think you can hit the retreat white flag button on top right when you are ready IIRC.

My question is do I have to wait until the whole team is on the "flee" line or can I get them off individually when they reach it. I know you can flee the map before you reach that line, but at a cost. Thus, I haven't tried it yet until they are all in order..

I think once your guy is on the withdrawal hex, he doesn't get attacked anymore ... you can't exit individually

So I went and got Battle Brothers, bloody good game.
It reminds me a lot and I mean a lot of Mount and Blade: Warband. The only difference is during battle it's third person view and the battles are chaotic, you can order your men about but pretty quickly it's a free for all hack and slash.
Back to Battle Brothers, I started the FGM mercenary band and picked the '12 men ambition'.
My funds began to run low and @Bootie deserted due to lack of pay and then @Meat Grinder got killed, well I wasn't gonna get my ambition running an outfit like that.
So I began to cheat a little, before going into battle I would save the game and reload till everybody came out the other side alive, didn't have to do that as much as you'd think but I did it all the the same (the shame of it all).

Here is the dirty dozen as it stands (for now).
