Hello!

I'm Zahard, and in the last couple of months I've fallen in love with Combat Mission as a game. It isn't the only wargame I play, but it's the one I've sunk the most time into since I was a kid playing Hearts of Iron 2 and other Paradox Titles. Not to mention all the tabletop I was raised on. Aside from my wargaming, I also really enjoy many other computer games, with a focus on competitive games like Starcraft and CS:GO.

What I'm super excited for, and really looking forward to, is joining an active community for Combat Mission. I'd really like to start playing online with others, learning from my mistakes and maybe earning a little wisdom. Honestly, even though I really enjoy these games (I've played mostly Final Blitzkrieg and Black Sea) I feel like I'm a very weak commander of my pixeltruppen. They often die horribly, sometimes for no reason, and other times when I lose very little I also don't gain very much. It's a bit embarrassing, but the AI in these scenarios often outwits me easily.

So, any tips on how to improve at CM would be awesome.

ALSO! I've been thinking about getting Fortress Italy -- would it be worth the purchase? I like the idea of playing in that theater of WW2, mostly because I don't know a bunch about it.

Greetings and welcome, @Zahard! You should soon receive @Hedgehog's Welcome Wagon hand-outs! They are good reading.
When ready for H2H:
  1. Set up a personal account at Dropbox and install CMHelper.
  2. Check out CMHelper explanatory video at http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/threads/how-to-cm-helper-and-dropbox.25557/.
  3. Download and install CMHelper from http://gregories.net/CMHelper/User Manual/CMHelper.html?GettingStarted.html.
Then, post your first request for a match either here or at the forum for the game(s) you own.
I think CMFI is well worth purchasing. I have it and enjoy it very much. Good luck and good gaming! Have fun.

Hello Zahard, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN! :)
Good to have you with us!

CMFI is definitively worth buying! Of course you've heard of "The green devils at Monte Cassino" - well, that's "Gustav Line"! ;)

The maps in CMFI are beautiful whith their own/unique interesting "flair" and a little touch of Afrika Korps/ desert war.
But the game also provides the possibilty of playing hard winter battles.

Here is the link to the demo version for to get a little taste of it ;) :

As soon as you've got CMFI, we will do a training battle together, if you like. ;) (mirror match without ladder report)

Thank you guys for the warm welcome! I really appreciate it, and I look forward to playing with you and getting to know you.

Also, I tried out the CMFI demo, and I really enjoyed it. I went ahead and purchased it, and I firmly believe it'll be worth it. I'll definitely be doing my best to get the price out of it in hours played.

I'd absolutely love that! As of the writing of this post, I'm 20~ish minutes away from having it installed per the ongoing download.

@Nathangun I have CMFI ready, and I've played a couple of SP scenarios.

If you wanted to create the match, I'd be happy to play it whenever you're ready.

CM2 is the best Tabletop wargame "IN THE WORLD" (In his exceptionally biased opinion of course) Shame about the other stuff

It's a fantastic community here, fun, tolerant (or how), funny, helpful, dis/respectful, warm, empathic, crazy, weird, but also EXCELLENT!! (They put up with me for proof)

I feel like I'm a very weak commander of my pixeltruppen. They often die horribly, sometimes for no reason, and other times when I lose very little I also don't gain very much.

I often think thta this simply reflects how GOOD Battlefronts game is! Any well read historian/military geek is very aware that this is what WW2 was in reality. There was a lack of GREAT leadership at all levels most of the time and in most armies.
