Hapless' Video AARs

@Gnarly Saved on cremation expenses though.

Yeah, I recall you also saved on this BMP-3 crews cremation expenses.... ;D

Mwaa-haa-haa! Very nice work Hapless.

But you were missing two additional options:

  1. Who the frack sent me to war in mobile tin-coffins???? Run away, run-away, and nuke the site from orbit: tis the only way to be sure!
  2. I actually would have spread my teams over all three 'locales', with just the javelin crews in the back field. Well, maybe not the buildings; didn't realize they were so exposed.

Edit: ahh, went thru all the options, you sadist! ;D

New video up! Bit of an experiment- likely the first ever interactive Combat Mission video.

This type of interactive video is fantastic for the training / entertainment value. You might want to consider a Combat Mission training blog like Bil Hardenburger has. BFC should sticky this on their forum. This reminds me of the Armchair General Combat Mission Tactics videos. Only the interactive style of this video is even better. There is a lot of potential in this. I hope you have the time to make more.

New series coming on: started up the US Campaign in CMBS. Always been a bit disparaging of fighting the AI instead of human players, but that's based mostly on the quick battle AI- thinking of the scenario designer as a human opponent distant in space and time is helping me overcome my prejudices :p.

Autopsy of that... performance coming up in the next few days.

That's an interesting concept, a DAR followed by an AAR.

Excellent couple of videos (I just saw part II).

@Baron Thanks man. I would have made one video with both the battle and the after action in, but it was about 40mins long and I thought it was better to split it up.

Here's the previously alluded to AAR for Strength and Power:

Then we've got both parts for the next mission: Outskirts

I've just finished Mission 3, which has the most apt title so far:
I feel a distinct urge to berate whoever made the decision to retire the A10, make cluster bombs illegal and pretend that Strykers are combat vehicles.

Knew there was a thread somewhere I should have been updating for the last few months.

Here we've got the After Action for Poking the Beat, definitely worth a look purely due to a comment from the level designer, LTC (retired) Scott Coulson, which nicely balances out my "Where are my Warthogs" rant:

After that we've got the next mission, Backs to the Wall:

and it's After Action:

and finally the last mission of the Task Force 3-69 Campaign, Vanguard:

I've still got to do the After Action for the last one, but that's the campaign done and dusted. Finally.

A slightly different format here, I'm playing a huge meeting engagement in Final Blitzkrieg against General Sir Anthony, who is another Few Good Men member some of you may have bumped into.

This one is turn-by-turn, I'm going to be putting the files up a turn a day. Not so much documentary-style as with the usual vids: I'm literally filming each turn as I get it, complete with the attendant panic, despair and maniacal laughter as I do my best to work out how not to get my arse handed to me while thinking out loud. Its good fun.

As of now, the setup and parts 1-2 are up:

I'm not going to post them all up here- there is going to be a lot of them.

Thanks for the Stavelot videos. Have you considered laying a smokescreen in front of his armour?

Give the infantry 80m 'quick' dashes with 10 second pauses, they won't as tired.
Your analysis is very good but if I may give a criticism, you do not give your infantry much micro management in the orders phase.
Enjoying the DAR, looking forward to how this turns out. I've subscribed to your YT channel.

Cheers guys!

I've considered smoking up General's armour, but with the planes coming in I don't want to hand him a load of concealment. I'm not sure it would actually be that effective- smoking up individual tanks is obviously not worth the effort (he can just move them forward a bit) and smoking up everything would probably take too long. It might be worth it after the air force has had a go in combination with the Jacksons- on the basis that they might spot a moving target better than a stationary one.

@Nathangun Thanks for the tip with the infantry. I would usually hand out more pauses to them, but I want to get them where they need to go nice and fast. It doesn't look like General is making a rush for the bridge in any strength, so they'll have plenty of time to rest. As for micormanagement... I've always found it a lot easier for tanks than infantry. Always something to work on!

General Sir Anthony and I have had a rematch- another huge scale meeting engagement on a slightly modified version of the Hussar map. This time I'm the Germans and he's playing as the Brits.

Its the same style as Stavelot, so a turn a day, all recorded live but the game is finished so if you spot that I'm doing something stupid you can't help, you just have to watch the disaster unfold.
This is a very different game to Stavelot, which forced an immediate long range confrontation- here we've got bocage (which I forgot how much I hated) and I haven't played as the Germans for ages (where's my wonderful artillery?) so its much more of a slow burner. Currently up to Turn 40.

And the playlist is here.

Well, Hell in the Hedgerows has been wrapped up for a while... time for another one!

This time we're in CMBS, playing a meeting engagement against the FGM's very own AjarmanG. The twist... I'm only allowed to bring Stryker Infantry. Hence, the "Eight Wheeled Handicap".

Also thought it would be worth kicking this series off with a guide to the Stryker Infantry Battalion. I've never been able to find any guides or ToE walkthroughs of any of the formations you can pick in the force selector, seems like something people might find handy.

You can find the playlist here!

As with the others, its a turn a day until the end of a very interesting game, hope you guys enjoy it!
