This is still and early access game, so there's that. And to turn you off further it's just a little indie, text-based RPG. And it is perma-death so no scum saving.
However, it's only $8 and I've already got my money's worth. Also, it is extremely addictive!
You start out as a basic Legionaire and through training of all sorts and surviving combat you will improve...right up to the point you die and have to start over. During the game you will face many situations where you are required to give an answer. Answers WILL affect your stats, good or bad.
When you start over you are awarded points to spend to improve your character at the start such as upgrading stats, buying armor & weapons, etc. How many points you get depends on your previous best performance.
Yes, it can get repetitive, but you can skip most of the story monologue if you've heard it before and get on the the hacking and slashing.
Great beer & pretzels fun if you have and hour or two.

I don't know how he does it because The Historical Wargamer is clearly not very good at this game yet. However, he ends up doing surprisingly well! I hate that.

I was reading the only guide over on Steam, the author suggested to 'respite' has often as possible. I tried that and didn't last long.
In my current incarnation I decided to be more aggressive with the enemy Leveys and inexperienced troops with a 'Feint' 'Shield' and then 'Soft spot' (neck) and got a few kills. Fighting the tougher mercs I was more cautious and went 50 rounds as my fatigue was high, didn't kill him but I survived.

Aaaaarrhg! I got f*****g killed by a couple of peasants while foraging! That is truly irritating.
It was my best game by 150%!
Foraging is a pain, I have yet to make it back to camp in time with enough rations.
To many pesky slingers ambushing you and then buggering off when foraging.

Random thoughts:
As for foraging, don't waste time picking up supplies any place other than a village. Then, if you are still a little short you can pick up a few small caches on your way back. Do not bother with fishing at all. Avoid moving through woods/rough squares whenever possible.
Know your enemy. Look them over closely to ID poor equipment, armor or capabilities.
Constantly adjust your attitude given changing circumstances. Makes a huge difference.
I like to start out with feints and then attack after a successful one that they don't counter. My shield rating still isn't good enough except for rare bashing.
I almost never do respite, but lots of recover. If you are off balance nothing else works. Note to self: Learn more about respite.
My quickness rating is finally high enough (74) to where I am actually getting two actions per round occasionally!
I don't understand exactly how the armor stat cover functions. You?

Duh! LOL Got that, but what does it do in the game? What affect and when/how?
The more that is covered the better the chance the armor will absorb the strike I guess, I haven't read the manual.

I finished the campaign in N. Africa by being very careful in the final battles. There, you'll be up against mercs and Hannibal's veterans. I found that keeping your fatigue down and letting the enemy tire themselves out is the best tactic, otherwise you'll have poor chances on getting hits.
War against Macedonia is rumored, that'll will be the next game update, but I'll have to start from the beginning again.

Well, Lucius Belleus survived the Battle of Zama and thus ends the gaming available in the early release version to date. I think I played about 25% of what will eventually be available. The good news is that my 535 pts will be carried over when new stuff is available and that means I may be able to improve my starting stats by as much as 15-16 points! Unless things change, of course. That will be a huge help next game. Likely all the AI soldiers will be tougher, but that's the way it goes.

My last 3 fights were frustrating because, with what I viewed as my guy buffed about as much as he could be under the circumstances, my offensive attacks were never rated above 50% and usually much less. I timed out on 3 fights, but at least I didn't die! No glory to be found for Belleus.

Serious "mTk Seal of Approval." Best $8 I've ever spent. :cheerso:

New high score is 654 pts. I was nearing the end of the campaign when I got over confident and accepted a personal challenge. I mean, really. How tough can he be? I got hacked to pieces by a brute with an axe in 3 turns. LOL.
That many points should give me a good start next game. Not as good as I thought/hoped since the more points you assign to a stat category the more expensive they become.

I was on the Steam Legionary forum a few days ago and posted a question asking how important was weapon "handiness" and how did it work. At the end I gave my score and asked how was I doing. To my delight the developer himself responded. He answered my "handiness" question but I still don't get it. Next time you're there see if you understand it. It is probably the most important stat, but still not sure how it works in game.
What startled me was his response to my 654 score. He said it was quite a good start and that after 15-16 games or so I should be able to get to 3000.
Uh, what? 3000? WTF!? How the hell does anyone do that? At my current rate that will NEVER HAPPEN! (sigh)
I played a few more times and finished the campaign again with a top score of 721.
Swell, I've discover another game I will never be good at.
