A wish list both small and large of what would make Combat Mission go from great to stupendous.

1-Unit progression in campaigns, where you can start with a green Utah Beach company and as the squads get kills or see action they can move to regular, then veteran ending with crack, leaving elite for special units like air born and special forces. and if more then half the squad gets killed they go back a rank or two.

2-Bring back Operations. I miss playing a battle in cmx1 beating my opponent one day, him counter attacking at night with reinforcements. and the key element being all the killed tanks and damage would be right where it was killed the battle before even if you moved to a new map then got pushed back to the old one.

3-There should be damaged track models n game and maybe even an order for the crew to try to repair them.

4-lose of tank should not be counted by the lose of the vehicle but by the lose of the crew. ie if a tank gets knocked out and all crew gets out safely, that tank can be taken off the field and patched up for the next battle. (providing you won control of the field that game.) if all crew is lost that tank is lost if some are lost next battle they go down an experience level because of the new green crew.

5-(this for some reason is a big one for me) Model AIR POWER it would be so amazing to see planes in the air.

6-Bring back real fire! CMx1 was so amazing when a tank was burning in a corn field and then the field started to go up in flame.

7- Have an order that makes troops and tanks go the same speed so the troops can walk behind it using it as cover like you see in so many WW2 photos.

8-Fix environmental damage. to many time ive have an expiration ruined because the AI is planing an ambush that i know is there because i watched the fences or bushes disappear in the FOW showing there exact path.

9-have the UI show what is IR blocking smoke and what smoke is not.(BS)

10-acquire is so nice, but some times i click the wrong thing and i cant give it back:(

11-sound contacts should not be as exact as they are.

12-Bring back incorrect spotting based on troop experience. I liked in CMx1 a trooper would identify a tiger at 1000m only for it to turn into a PNZ-4 close up,

13-have live camo bushes and such to make static tanks harder to spot. pay more for unit with these add ons in QB.

14-mortar flares for night battles.

15-simulate close hand to hand combat when storming a trench or house.

I can go on for ever but what do you guys think any more you can think of or any of these you thing are not needed?

for me, immediate would be numbers 1, 2, 10, 14 ... The first two, cause I love to make campaigns... the last two would be nice and IMHO not hard to do...

I believe 11 and 12 are already 1/2 done... have got sound contacts with just 'Armor' and then it turns into a half track (I may be mistaken but think so).... 12 could be better, 100% spotting accuracy is not true, think of aircraft at 25000 feet... same with vehicles at 1000m (especially dependent on environment)...

Number 4 might be true for the Allied side based upon production, but in WWII it did mean a lot to the Axis who had trouble to keep even Battalion size units even close to stocked correctly due to manufacturing based ability upon the OOB supply...

I like number 7 but found that 'slow' on most vehicles will work within approximately 10-15% of what your looking for... and most maps dont have spaces near 1500m plus to make a difference...

I like the new way that ammo explodes on destroyed vehicles later (in ref to number 6)... I have gotten burned putting troops near some of those early on in CMx2...

Number 3 to me is out... hell no repair team or crew will stick around to repair a track within an hour (or the time frame of most CM Battles) of being underfire for that track being destroyed.... sounds like movie stuff to me...

15 is out... doesn't happen that much and its tough enough to get platoons to get to look normal when together in action... I just enjoy the fact I can split up (and I like those options, Scout, AT, Attack, etc) platoons, etc...

---------------------

All that said.... a few things I would like to see...

Item 37... - the ability to change some of the ammo load out of Armor at the start, maybe within a 20% ratio... more HE then AP, bla bla, bla...

Item 51... - better charge of Fire control from Spotter to Off Map asset... maybe a off map 'Fire Control Center' to give units specific Rankings... these units first, etc... since most COM would go up the ladder maybe a button on the highest unit on map to go to the screen... Screen options could be as basic as ranking FC orders, to Allocating different assets that could be quicker, etc... This way anyone within COM of Highest ranking unit on map can request Arty, but you get to assign... granted a small detail but that Platoon Leader in a fox hole who see's two Coy's of SS Infantry coming down on him, cant access Arty, but is still in touch with the Field Commander for battle... (Help you MotherF..ker I NEED ARTY NOW)...

Item Fredrock... - (A little) more flexibility in the Scenario Design Module... 3D AI plotting would be awesome... let me plot how I would play the battle based upon my knowledge and design of the battle I have created... I could almost guarantee there would be more designers and the 'Canned Battles and Campaigns' would go up 2 fold in quantity, and 4 fold in quality....

Great post Ghost man... thanks for starting it...

I agree about the repair but i would still like to see models with tracks off when there is track damage. and if they are on the move when it happens they should violently swing to that side as they lose traction. I think.
and i dont think a immobilized tank should be a lost one cant they fix that between battles.

maybe im playing it wrong it happens to me a lot you run into a building there are troops in it they shoot at each other instead of charging and fighting it out hand to hand. I liked when it happened in close combat i dont know if you ever played that series.

and the biggest benefit to 4 for me is stopping people from using their tank crews as free scouts.

as for the cover armor movement this is what i want.

16- the smoke from burning tanks should be effected by wind and block line of sight. like in real battle"I think"(never been in one)

Yea on 4, I dont like to use crews as 'eyes and ears' ...

number 3 is eye candy, IMO I would rather have realistic ballistic rounds, penetration, etc

15 again is eye candy... before eye candy I believe there is still a lot to do to get the game to where BFC wants it to be based upon their initial release and mission statement back in 99-00...

again most of my stuff is opinion on the 'eye' stuff... me I want to recreate a small platoon level fight, as it was, in the terrain, in WWII and have that low level tactical command... also you have to remember I am an old tabletop boardgame, give me a big hex map and little counters, I am a player from 1970.... lmfao...

Your a good due @casper... you ready for a game... pick out any game any side, QB or Scenario, any thing... I have everything... and send me a setup... lets go to town... :)

Im an artist Fredrocker in my opionion CM is light years ahead of everyone else in Combat Sim and realism now i just wish they got an VFX guy and some more programers and made it look like eye cotton candy. Order Of War style. If Graviteam Tactics Mius Front had turned based game mode it would be hard not to jump to that.

the mod community does an amazing job but the real nice stuff needs programmer support.

I like the idea of tweaking the ammo load out even maybe over loading. I remember watching a doc on Sturmgeschutz crews putting shells anywhere they could fit just to support the infantry longer.

17-I also feel like CM has done WW2 and contemporaneity combat, for their next release i would love for them to do something hypothetical in the 60s what if the cold ware went hot sort of thing. I really want to play with
Strv 103
strv-103b-2.jpg

and the EBR-11

or patton
M60A2_at_AAF_Museum.jpg

so much eye candy in that time frame

and P.s what they really need to do is fix the modules. now that they have the all in installers you should be able to play with someone that has all the add ons even if you just have the base game. like I would love to play CMBN with you but can if you have the vehicle pack because i dont:(

18_ I want my tanks to be able to drive in through and over walls trees and even houses.

To be able to blow bridges. And ambihiuos vehicles. Or other means of crossing a river

Having the ability for gun crews to remount their guns would be nice.
First I noticed of this was getting an ATG crew into nearby foxholes to take cover, then being unable to remount as a tank crew would be able to a tank, or driver a truck.
