This is the then-Lieutenant John K. Singlaub (1921/2022), carrying a .30 caliber M1-A1 folding stock carbine across his chest. Singlaub was recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in Nov 1943. He jumped into France on 11 Aug 1944 to arm and direct the French resistance. Also he jumped onto Hainan Island on 27 Aug 1945 to rescue Dutch and Australian POW. (colorized pic)
