Now here's an Awesome Drone

The US Navy successfully conducted take-offs and landings from the nuclear aircraft carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush, with a new stealth jet called the X-47B. What is so different about this plane is the fact that it is a 'drone'. It is completely unmanned. Drones come in all sizes and the X-47B is likely one of the larger ones. What is so ironic about all of this is the fact that the enemy cannot detect a plane like this in the first place. In the unlikely event they get lucky at shooting one down, there will be no human loss of life or captivity. As you view the flight deck crew signalling the plane, they are simply signalling the on-board cameras, who in turn are being manned by staff inside the command intelligence center (CIC) on board the ship.

I had an instructor in the Marines who was a pilot (I wasn't) who said one day fighters and bombers would be unmanned. That sounded too far fetched to me.

I also had a professor in college, c1977, who said one day we'd all have computers that fit on our desks. "Unbelievable", I thought.

So...not sure what that says about me. Actually, I do know what that says...

You can look back for years and be amazed at the changing world....some good...some not so good

Not sure I like that. Drones are not made to be responsable for something. They don´t think for themselfs.

Greetings :)

No but they are controlled by humans sitting at desks. In fact PTSD is extremely high in drone operators as they linger in the battlespace for far longer, and more frequently than ground or air troops. Often getting to know the intimate details of the family life of their targets. So they might spend weeks looking at a guy playing with his kids, kissing his wife goodbye as he gets in his hilux and goes off to various insurgency meetings, before turning him into a bloody splat on some road somewhere. They then go home to their own wives and kids and contemplate the meaning of it all..

@Harmes

Great information. I am sure they never contemplated this information when thinking about their job. I hope their training is starting to emphasize these facts and information. I also hope these operators "pre-game" what it means to be an operator before they have to deliver their drone payload.
