January, Northern Europe......................................

Russian troops cross the Estonian border following attacks against pro-Russian rallies held in Tartu and Tallinn. Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian Prime Minister, announces that "The Russian Federation will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Russian peoples, no matter their nationality. All Russian deserve to live in peace."

Further fighting has erupted in Latvia as government forces and Pro-Russian rebels fight for control of the Latvian northern territories.

The UN has agreed further sanctions against Russia and ordered that all Russian troops should be withdrawn. The US President annouces that America will not stand by whilst Russian continues its expansionist strategy.

US and UK forces have mustered and an expeditionary task force ha sbeen dispatched to the Baltic Sea whilst Germany has offered military support to Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

Global update

The situation in the Baltic States is rapidly escalating. Estonian and Russian forces have clashed south of Tallinn and east of Pamu whilst Russian mechanised forces have seized the port city of Haapsalu on the Estonian west coast. There are also reports of airborne forces landing on the islands of Hiivmaa and Saaremaa.

In Latvia pro-Russian rebel forces have setup enclaves around Madona, Ergli and Laudona whilst Latvian troops are moving towards the area in a show of local force.

Various United Nation states has voiced that Russian’s actions are nothing short of an invasion of the European Union. The German minster was quoted as saying “I fear sanctions and rhetoric will not be enough to halt this new Russian aggression. We must be willing to meet force with force”

There is a media blackout on the US and UK expeditionary force that is bound for the Baltic Straights. The US 7th Cavalry Regiment “Garryowen” and the UK 42 Commando comprise the main infantry battle forces

Global update
As the NATO expeditionary task force heads into the Baltic Straights more information is being released to the world’s media. 7th Cavalry, a CAB of 1st Cavalry Division & 42 Commando, a subordinate of the British 3 Commando Brigade, form the bulk of ground forces. The combined forces will be operating under designation Task Force 49. The Operation has been named Chimera after the fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia and is stated to represent the combined forces of NATO. The Task Force is under the command of Colonel James W. Forsyth, 7th Cavalry.

The United Nations has released a statement on the mission objective; ‘The aggressive actions of the Russian Federation are unacceptable. Estonia and its neighboring Baltic States are recognised members of NATO and the European Union. Fellow member states will make all efforts to support those countries during these difficult times. Operation Chimera is a demonstration of that support, and the commander of Task Force 49 has full authority to take direct action to restore the Democratic government of Estonia.’

NASOE Update
Following the activation of NASOE on the 1st Feb and the snatch mission in Canada the operational status of the NASOE continues to ramp up. The mission report of SO force Osprey and the apparent collaboration of the hostage with his captors seems to have far reaching consequences.

The NASOE operational brief and mission specifics are being kept top secret. R&A is reaching out to contacts across the globe at an unprecedented level. Something major has happened to prompt this type of response.

NATO AND RUSSIAN FORCES CLASH…..

On Sunday the 8th Feb at approximately 7am elements of the US 7th Cavalry landed upon the small front line island of Utes. Their objective was to secure the island and neutralise Russian jet fighters capable of intercepting and destroying ships of the expeditionary task force fleet in the Baltic Straights. CNN reporter Paul Davidson was aboard the USS Khe Sanh as the US strike forces left in the early hours of the morning.

Davidson reported; ‘In the darkness of the early morning we heard the boom of the colossal guns of the battleship USS Iowa as the airfield was shelled prior to troops from 7th Cavalry assaulting the island. At approximately 7am, 6 troop aboard helicopters left the assault ship USS Khe Sanh. They left the deck of the assault ship in unison, dropping fast and skimming over the wave tops, disappearing into the morning mist as they head north to the occupied island of Utes.

The battle lasted 2 hours, with the US forces successfully securing the island. I was later escorted to the island and allowed to speak with the US forces involved in the operation. The troopers were in good spirits, I heard talk of a Black Hawk transport helicopter shot down in the initial assault. Information is still incoming but it appears the helicopter was hit by anti-aircraft fire during the first wave and was destroyed, killing the crew and the troops aboard. This is a heavy loss for the Task Force at such an early stage in the operation and may be a dark sign of what is to come in this dramatically escalating conflict’.

Only 48 hours later US and UK forces made landings upon the islands of Hiivmaa and Saaremaa on the west coast of Estonia. Both islands have been occupied by Russian ground forces and reports are incoming of heavy fighting on both islands. Whilst the world’s media is being allowed to accompanying the Task Force, direct access to military forces is being kept under tight control.

NASOE Update

No further information from NASOE CCC. SO (Special Operations) teams Osprey and Vulture remain assigned to the US 7th Cavalry as part of Operation Chimera in the Baltic region.

Global update

Reports are coming in of heavy fighting between Russian parachute forces and the US 7th Cavalry on the Estonian island of Saaremaa. The main island of Saare County is located in the Baltic Sea, south of Hiivmaa island, and belongs to the West Estonian Archipelago. It is believed Russian forces secured the island as a front line against attack from the Baltic Sea.

The US State Department issued the following statement; ‘The United States is gravely concerned by the deteriorating situation in and around the islands of Saaremaa and Hiivmaa. The United States Army confirms that direct engagement has taken place between forces of the US 7th Cavalry and the 76th Guards Air Assault Division. The annexation of Estonia is an aggressive occupation by the Russian Federation and any such acts by a foreign power against a state of the European Union and a member state of NATO must be acted upon. The mission statement of NATO, attack one member and all members respond, must be upheld.’

Global update
FIGHTING CONTINUES TO ESCELATE ON THE ISLANDS OF HIIVMAA AND SAAREMAAA…..

British 42 Commando and US 7th Cavalry forces continue to clash with the Russian Federation’s 76th Guards Air Assault Division. The NATO Task Force Commander, Colonel James W. Forsyth of the 7th Cavalry reports steady success however losses on both sides are mounting. Whilst the fighting is currently contained upon the two coastal islands on the west coast of Estonia there is mounting concern that should NATO secure both the islands, will Colonel Forsyth and Task Force 49 be ordered onto the Estonian mainland where Russian and Estonian forces continue to fight for control of ground around Tallinn and to the east of Pamu.

In Latvia, pro-Russian rebel force enclaves around Madona, Ergli and Laudona hold strong against Latvian troops. The Latvian government continues to state that the pro-Russian rebels are being supported directly by Russian Special Forces or ‘little green men’ as they have become termed locally. The Red Cross estimates over 1 million people have been displaced by the fighting with casualties reported to be over 2,000 in only 2 months of conflict.

Who would Task Force 49 face…

Since the annexation of Estonia and the rise of pro-Russian rebels in Latvia Russian Federation troops from the 18th Independent Motor Rifle Brigade have been moving across the Russian / Estonian border. Local reports of heavy armour from the 4th Guards Tank Division are unconfirmed however it is clear that should NATO forces look to fight upon the Estonian mainland it will be a tough and potentially costly battle in human life. As French and German foreign office officials look to find a cease fire there are no compromises in sight.

PEACE ELUDES THE BALTIC STATES WHILST NATO FLOUNDERS…..

Over three months have passed since the Russian Federation annexed the Estonian state following violence during pro-Russian protests. Whilst the UN and member states of NATO expressed outrage, threats of military action and stronger sanctions, only US and UK troops have been committed on the ground. Task Force 49, a combined force of US Cavalry and UK Commando troops are actively engaging Russian airborne soldiers from the Guards Air Assault Division. The NATO mandate of invade one NATO country and all will respond has to-date not held firm, the question on many people’s lips is why? German and French government officials continue to attempt to negotiate a Russian withdrawal however there has been no success. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been quoted as saying ‘we (Germany) are a fully committed member of NATO, however all efforts must be made to find a peaceful solution to the difficult situation in the Baltic States. We cannot broker peace whilst wielding a hammer. Should the peace efforts be unsuccessful then our military forces will be deployed and Germany will fulfill its commitment to NATO’. Analysts view this as a clear warning to Putin and the Russian government, they must commit to the peace process. The type or scale of German military commitment is unclear, however should German forces be deployed other NATO nations are anticipated to follow.

As CNN reporter Paul Davidson follows the Task Force he reports that Colonel James W. Forsyth’s mandate is still clear, use the forces at his command to ensure the return of the democratically elected Estonian government.

Day 49, 15th March

As 7th Cav continue to push the 76th Guards Air Assault Division on the island of Saaremaa our squad supports a large scale assault upon entrenched Russian forces in the western coastal town of Rønne. Our weapons support squad provides mortar support to clear the way for Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Companies. The following video is the AAR of that action.

Day 56, 22nd March

A small US force on patrol on the island of Saaremaa was escorting an individual that NASOE CCC ordered us to secure and divert to NASOE personnel for extraction. Under no circumstances is this individual to reach FOB Utah. This is the AAR of that mission.

Man, I completely lost control of the situation.
But still this turned out to be a milestone for us. It's the first time we succeeded with a HVT-extraction.

 To the FGM for our first HVT extraction and congrats to Vart. The mission was scripted to be confusing and cause chaos, I thought you did good :salute:
