This is the latest game I've gotten my teeth into the last two weeks.
It's a sandbox survival game that's still in Alpha and the latest updates create interesting scenarios for seasoned players.
I find it a really well made with a excellent sense of atmosphere in the game.
What's it about I hear you ask?
Well it's you against mother nature, trying to survive in the wilderness of Canada with temperatures dropping to -23 celsius, very little salvageable food and wolf's & bears that attack you on sight.

Here are some screenshots I've taken.

The 'Mystery Lake Cabin', this is where I've set up base. From here I scavenge nearby settlements and hunt for food. I was lucky to find a rifle, but only have 7 bullets, so I use it as self defense against wolves.

An angry wolf who wants me for breakfast, the flare scares them enough to back off, slightly.

The key to survival.

Inventory management, traveling light lessens fatigue and fatigue is a killer in this game, so when you plan to leave the cabin, make sure you only take what you'll need.

Make sure you always carry some pain killers, a fall can cause an injury and slow you down.

Build snares to catch rabbits, handy if it's close to your base.

If you don't trap enough rabbits, try to kill a deer, I try to use a bow I crafted (so I can save bullets), as soon as I stand up to take my shot the bloody deer runs off.

After you made a kill, harvest the meat, guts and hide and let them cure a few days to make winter clothes.

The weather can turn suddenly nasty, so be prepared.

Find some shelter and warm up when it's necessary.

Some poor sods who didn't make it.

Just watched The Revenant movie on Sunday ... any chances of getting mauled by a bear in this one?

Yes, I came across a bear, as he ran for me I shot a couple of arrows, pissed him off more than anything.
This isn't my video, just an in game illustration.
I remember falling unconscious watching the bear walking off with arrows hanging out of him.

Very nice game! Spent a lot time with it!

How long did you survive? ;) What was your favorite location?

My first attempt I lasted 4 days, then I figured out how to 'save' the game which the game mechanics don't allow you to do. I've been native for around 40 days now, the Mystery Lake map is still the only map I've been too, I set up base at the Lake Cabin, good location, I got a few rabbit traps across the rail tracks, still haven't found the map's bunker yet. The game doesn't have a in game map, you have to learn the layout of the land, and use landmarks as reference points, but some useful folks have made map of the regions.
How did you get on @Tinman ?

I played it quite a lot actually. Once I died like 10 meters or so away from the farmhouse in pleasant valley in a blizzard while hunting after 80 days or so. Somehow the game gets you.
One epic thing is in the game how you can drop everything from the inventory and sort it in the shelfs or laying pelts out on the ground.

Love the lore of the game also. I haven´t touched it in a while but maybe they release a mulitplayer one day, then let´s go hunting together! :)

The Long Dark is on sale on Steam, well worth the small price.
