The Rico-Shorker War

After years of political tensions and border clashes over territorial disputes betweenThe People's Republic of Rico and Das Shorker Reich, full scale war has finally broken out between the two small nations which share the Mediterranean island of Montalbano.

Full scale mobilisation began a few days ago after relations broke down irrevocably -- and while not yet complete, both sides have launched their first attacks -- each command trying to pre-empt an enemy sneak attack in an attempt to gain an early initiative.

In the north, Shorker forces are beginning an assault on the Rico Republic's bridgehead across the Rio Plasho river, while Rico Republic forces are attempting to force their way through the Western Hills along the south coast road to capture the strategic town of Westerwalde.

In anticipation of the Shorker attack in the north, the gunboat of the Rico Republic navy sortied to support their forces with naval artillery fire, but in a short and sharp encounter with the Shorker navy in coastal waters, it came off second-best and is withdrawing back to the naval base at Ricoville for battle damage repairs.

As combat operations began, the weather closed in and both nations' small air forces are for the moment grounded.

Stay tuned for more reports from the battlefields as the situation becomes clearer!

Battles are all fought in CMFI Sept 1943 as 30 minute, medium size attack battles with a few limitations on kit selection (like no big cats)

Poeple's Repubilic of Rico uses British forces, Shorker Reich German.

There always TWO attacks available -- the side who wins a battle keeps control of the attack.
If a battle is won at Major or Total Victory level, certain percentage bonuses and initiative is gained.

This intended to be played in a spirit of fun with not too many rules to bog us down (there are CRT's for die rolls for naval and air combat) :)

Awesome, this is great... Keep Calm and Record On!
So are your troops called Ricotruppen? :)

Details are still sketchy, but the first photos have been released by the Ministry of Defence of fighting on the southern front, where People's Republic of Rico Forces are attacking Shorker Reich border positions in the southern coastal pass ...

Infantry scout teams advancing as smoke from the preparatory artilllery barrage is visible in the distance...

PRRAF mortar teams in action shelling enemy positions to cover their infantry's advance.

Heavy MG teams firing in support of atatcking infantry while artillery fire falls on a distant hill top, said to be one of the attacking force's objectives.

On Dec. 23rd 2013 - JUST ONE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS! - in the early morning PROR milicia opened fire on our frontier post
at the southern border of the Reich.

They apparently were trying to start a surprise attack - but this failed - we always have (and had) an eye on our bad neighbours who have now
revealed what was on their mind all the time!

And while the fightings are continuing in the South at the moment, we already launched a preventive strike in the North for to hinder
the Ricotruppen to gather their forces on the eastern shores of the Rio Plasho. The PROR was trying to build a bridgehead there and to
launch a 2nd major attack on our homeland.

There is just one problem with this war! I can`t decide which side I will follow as an fan??? They are both good chaps although one of them is a cruel dictator...that is what I read in today´s newspaper.

Ricotruppen vs Shorktroops awesome, awesome, awesome let the battle of megalomania begin. ;) Megafun!

Situation looking grim on the Rio Plasho bridgehead... overview of the battlefield: it's a wide open plain with gentle folds in the ground and not too much cover for either attacker or defender, with the central farm complex and crossroads being the victory objective!

The mass of enemy armour is swinging across from the right flank (dark blue arrows, light blue panzergrenadiers in halftracks) ... the red X and smoke indicates the demise of the Shermans from the previous screenshot.

The aftermath of massive panzer fire on the AT gun firing from the off to the right of the above picture ... the brave crew stood to their gun to the last.

And the question on the all the infantry's lips is "Where's the bleedin' artillery??!"
