Unknown military medal

Hi guys,
I need everyone's brain power. I need info on a medal. The gentleman served in WW 2, in china the ribbon is a large red center bar and left to right and right to left are 3 smaller bars on each side of the red center bar. the colors are from the center red, black, yellow, black. It was worn on his top row on the right side of the China occupation medal. sorry I do not have a picture but you could draw it out. It looks like a standard medal. I do not think it is from a foreign country as it would not be above his good conduct medal. I looked at the USA medal charts and could not find it.

Sounds like The War Cross of Honour ribbon. But thats a German award.

wider red center about half the ribbon the black yellow black on each side of the red section
