The VW Kubelwagen Type 82/3, a variant of the Volkswagen Kübelwagen, and also known as the Panzerattrape, was constructed to function as a tank decoy in order to deceive the enemy. The mock-up armored vehicle was flanked by simple metallic structures that mimicked a tank’s track, but the machine gun fitted turret was real.
This is a VW Kubelwagen Type 155/1 "Schneeraupe", who did not go beyond being just a prototype.
The prototype was a Type 82 converted to the Type 155/1. Despite positive results, the vehicle was never taken into production, because the modifications necessary were extensive and the resulting vehicle was to slow and inefficient.
