Hope this is not to easy....

From memory,I think Murphy won his Medal of Honor by jumping onto an M10 wreck (even though it was burning) and used its MG to mow down advancing Jerries

Correct...In the movie it was a Sherman, and ol Lt Murphy mows down an entire Battalion with a Ma Duece!!

Years ago I was at Arlington Cemetery and I looked for his grave, I stumbled upon it, it was very unassuming with dead grass and dirt all around, like some old vets grave you would see in some small rural town. I guess nobody gave enough of a shit to take care of it.

That is almost the whole story. While shooting the .50 he called in the artillery and giving directions where to have it fall. And, of course, he had a number of injury's as he did this. The Germans were repulsed by his actions.

Murphy seemed to have a good healthy philosophy about life and death, he said "What does it matter if somebody orbits the sun a few more times than somebody else?"

"..after being turned down by the Marines and the Army paratroopers for being too short at 5 feet 5.5 inches (166.4 cm), he was also turned down by the Navy for being slight of build.
He was sent to Camp Wolters, Texas, for basic training and during a session of close order drill, passed out (fainted).
His company commander tried to have him transferred to a cook and bakers' school because of his baby-faced youthfulness"
