Hi guys, I’m just firing this out there really quickly as a status update on whats happening in and around the FGM… not so much with the tournaments and the like but the actual site itself.
A few weeks ago the site went down for over 24 hours and I had issues with my hosting… basically it was there fault and they finally got round to admitting they had a config error on one of the servers. During the down time I thought screw this I’m of to find new hosting and signed up for a new host. This was fine until I realized that there is actually 2 huge companies who own most of the web hosting sites. One is based in Germany and one is based in the US. To my dismay the new hosts I signed up for were run by the same company as my old hosts. Companies tend not to advertise this fact so that folk who get disillusioned with their hosting package actually change host but the company is exactly the same… pointless exercise. Anyway I have decided where I am for now and give them another chance.
As you know I’ve been working on the new sites The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot and doing the rebuilding of CMMODS to be honest it has been like that scene in Nightmare on Elm Street where Freddy chases Nancy up the stairs.
I have been dealing with a lot of correspondence relating to the sites, most of it good and supportive but some of it not so good. I have had people advise they will never download anything from the sites and never use it to host their material and such like. So be it. Since it was designed it has been changed a couple of times and although I (and you guys) know that I will continue to work on it to make it evolve into something that is better than it is now a lot of people have decided to grumble and complain that it is not what THEY want and it doesn’t fulfill its purpose. I disagree and have every faith in my ability to get this working… hell, in my opinion it works fine now but I agree it needs fine tuned to an extent. Wading through the emails and forum posts is like climbing those stairs… one person wants it done one way and another person wants it down the opposite way. It will be impossible for me to please everyone so what I am going to do is to build the sites to please me and the guys at Battlefront. Fending of criticism and explaining things has really slowed down the time I have had to invest into the sites and I certainly feel like Nancy getting bogged down. Having said that some of the suggestions made to me have been top notch but finding the time to implement them whilst the rest of the whirlwind spins me around is proving a thankless task.
Apart from that I have a lot on my hands in general…
Drums of War Tournament
Ostfront Wargaming Club Tournament
Updating YouTube Channel
Making Medals for the Tournaments
…. and 101 other things that are sitting in my inbox and PM list to get seen to.
Bear with me whilst I battle through the to do list.
Thanks for reading.
