THE FEW GOOD MEN TO SUPPORT OTHER WARGAMES

After feedback from the community on how to improve the FGM I have decided to open up the site to support (have specific sections) other wargames and the like within our forum setup.  In doing this I have juggled about the current forum categories set up and made a few cosmetic changes here and there.  Nothing earth shattering or game changing but it does mean we have the flexibility to add games.  Combat Mission will be our main wargame for sure due to the fact that the FGM was built on the solid foundations of the CM series of games and will support it in the future as well but there is no harm in expanding our horizons a little bit and casting the net out and seeing what we can catch.  I would however like to point out that CM will be the only game that we will have a ladder for – the simple reason that to have multiple ladders would become a burden very quickly.  We have tried to run multiple ladders in the past and they failed miserably but we will honour the Praetorian Guard of CM’ers here at the club by supporting 100% the game that essentially brought us all together.

In viewing the forums over the coming days and weeks you will undoubtedly see subtle changes creeping in to the set up.  None of them will detract from the core gaming trends of the members but will provide a flexibility to the club as a whole.

Thanks for reading.

  1. That’s a sound posting Shane, i really haven’t played other games apart from the CM experience
so who knows it might open a new field to this old bloke.
keep doing what you are good at mate, that’s running this grand Club of ours

    1. Like I said elsewhere nothing ventured nothing gained. It will be areas you can dip into see if you like what you’re looking at and maybe invest in the game.

  2. Will be interesting to see how that works out.
Would be nice to see a wider scope of games covered in the FGM (says the man with virtually no spare time these days … LOL) besides the CM stalwarts.

Thinking back to previous clubs I have been member of, it works if the core social interface stays intact (like in FGM a shared central message board) and not break up into isolated silos.

FGM has always been essentially a hardcore of CM gamers who also happen to play other games which they share with their FGM brethren.

    1. Thanks for the reply Rico… to be fair because we are not concerning ourselves with ladders and tournaments the raison d’être of having these new areas is for the simple joy of it. If it works great… if it doesnt… so be it. 🙂

      1. Yep — I agree. Also, I find that different games also come with slightly differing “gaming cultures” amongst players — so that will also have to fit in.

        1. The site is not going out of its way to bring other folk in.. if they arrive they arrive… however I see it as the current member base 200+ possibly looking at new games that are out there.

  3. Good luck with the initiative. Agree with the keeping the CM theme, that is the bedrock of FGM.
Perhaps you might consider FGM being the WEGO shop! That is supporting games that have the WEGO system.
I don’t think we are a FPS group, maybe RTS (not for me though!).
