ArmA 3 session Sunday 3rd Jan - 11:00 GMT

I'd join up but that's like 6 am in my time zone.
@Otosan, getting a balance on the time zones for such a global bunch has always been difficult. We're more 'Eastern' biased at the moment because we don't really have any regular US players. When we enter into Summer time and some countries clocks change whilst others don't we do get a bit closer together and we can perhaps juggle timing to try and make it a bit more palatable for an early Sunday Coffee & ArmA start (y)

I want to have a final whine about ARMA's cheating, glitching AI. ;)

Josey and I were aiming up the stairs on the first level of the tower.
We knew an enemy was up there, so we were being cautious.
We waited. Suddenly, muzzle flashes from the wall! We both went down.

Last week, I was covering a building. In particular, a window in which I had seen movement.
My body was in cover behind a wrecked vehicle, with only my head showing.
I was ordered to hold fire by DoubleD, presumably because squadies were about to clear the second story.
Suddenly, I saw a tiny movement. The enemy's gun barrel poked through the wall. A flash, and it went dark. Grrrr. :sneaky:

One thing I found interesting in this week's session was coming under fire from the technical.
I had never experienced the concept of penetration in the game before.
I was fired at in the watch tower. I hit the deck, but the metal plates of the tower didn't protect me from the 50 cal rounds.

A couple of satisfying moments for me in the recent combat.
One was when DoubleD ordered me to cover our rear inside a long building.
I was thinking - well, it's unlikely we'll be attacked from there, but okay.
Sure enough, an enemy opened the door suddenly and I was able to take him out (not before he got off a short burst, but no one was hit luckily).

The other was when DoubleD opened the door to the dome facility.
An enemy in full gear including bullet proof vest was standing there, and I unleashed on him.
Despite his armour, 20 rounds from my LMG stiched him up nicely.

I understand. I used to be in an IL2 group that flew weekly missions. We had participants from Norway to Israel, the US and occasionally Australia. Scheduling on a world wide scale is tough.

This can be frustrating... BUT.... there is a riposte to the AI and that is LAMBs suppression. ArmA’s suppression mechanics are rudimentary at best and I use LAMBs suppression because I’ve found it to be the most robust of the mods I’ve tested. Shots around an AI soldier reduce their aiming and spotting skills, effectively ‘suppressing’ their shooting skills. It doesn’t try to affect their movements or their AI brain which seems to get odd results at times but it is effective at creating a type of suppression. It’s a decreasing effect so emptying a magazine isn't going to be efficient however continous single shots can keep AI suppressed/rubbish shots pretty much indefinitely or until your ammo runs out. This makes the LMGs much more useful as suppression weapons because of the larger magazines and penetration. ACE also improves the effectiveness of the 5.56 ballistics over the 6.5 hence why the missions I’ve been running with ACE have us carrying the HK416 and the Minimi LMG.

ACE adds a secondary affect because the roles/weapons players carry become more focussed because of the fatigue being cumulative. Carrying an LMG, ammo and then looting an RPG means one will quickly be walking and never recover, basically forcing players to stay in role.

All of this has a very positive backroom impact on the mission scripting. It’s much easier to make a mission where ones knows that they’ll be one light AT player so one technical or light armour creates a challenge versus potentially six players running around with RPGs/LMG etc. Does the mission then require one technical or six!

Spoiler . With the change in game style it’s been worth me testing out different methods to challenge players. At the moment I’m looking at things such as AI snipers engaging at ranges well beyond normal AI, booby traps, effective ambushes and involvement in much larger engagements.

How are you going to do that? All the mission logs show that on last Sunday it was you who, not only drove that lead vehicle, drove all of the vehicles.
What so I'm guilty by association to a similar previous action? "Oh that John fellow lit the fire that burnt down that factory last year. That means he must of torched that fast food joint last night as well even though he's already locked up for arson... because... well because." What type of hope do I have? :p

So your saying you lit a fire and burnt down a McDonalds? We have to watch out for you being an arsonist now

I'm an Australian, it's a bit pointless being an arsonist. Even if I wanted to burn down that Maccas, mother nature will probably beat me to it. :D
