Operation Bakewell Tart (Campaign Overview)

We're back on the island of Tanoa facing off against an insurrectionist force intent on disrupting the mining of recently discovered Rare Earth Materials. Certain groups of the local populace are being targeted and have requested specific support from the UN forces deployed to the island

This is the same perpetual mission as last week (but I've refreshed myself on the instructions :rolleyes: so we'll have specific side missions to complete to help improve our standing.) The campaign requires the gathering of intel, promoting a positive reputation with the civilian population, removing IEDs and the management of combat assets and equipment.

@Vartuoosi @Aurelius @Nathangun @Redbully, big thanks for joining today’s session. We spent time helping the local populace and gathering intel on a location for one of the insurgent bases. With an approximate location we made a fly over, only for the heli to take heavy fire and then the AI to have to autorotate a crash landing into jungle tree tops. What followed was the most intense firefight I’ve experienced in ArmA, a stand in the jungle as we fought just to hold our ground. It culminated in us having to exfil under sustained fire and attack with Vart carrying Red onto the beach as Nathan held the beach with the heli as we fought our way out.

We now know the location of one of the bases but need maxim turn out to have a chance of getting on the island and taking it out....
 
Or we can use the only advantage we have - night.
That’s an option. A night attack, potentially from the sea. Secure the beach (place a respawn spot) and then fight our way through the jungle to the camp. I think the enemy musters at the base (respawns) so I think it will be an active fight the entire way. Night fighting through the jungle with NVGs will be a right bitch, but an option. Other ideas?
 
I think with a bit more manpower will make it significantly easier, as we won't get bogged down as much from one casualty. Keep in mind we never really got a 'fair' fight as we landed in the thick of it with enemies all around, with a proper insertion we would only get attacked from three sides.

The island makes it hard to use any heavy weapon for fire superiority. If we have access to any naval assets it might be worth going in with a (airlifted) boat to avoid triggering the hornets nest. I am partial to the idea of a night raid, it would give us an advantage but NVG's are grainy in ACE.

As far as NVG's go - there are settings that can be adjusted to give you a clear and sharp image through NVG's. I believe they are already set on the server. If not, it is an easy fix.

NVG's plus silencers = we can take them down.
 
Great, looks like we are formulating a plan of attack.

@Aurelius, please will you requisition the latest NVG tech (arrange server settings).

I'll get the Intel guys to get some high level drone flyovers of the island and identify potential beach landing places. I'll also see what I can do about getting a boat(s) and a helicopter lift, if we can.

We will need two Medics on this one to keep people on the attack and I'll look at how we sort out reserves (respawn point) on the beach.
