How smart do you have to be to be different things in life? Fascinating stuff, IMO.


How smart is Meat Grinder? Well, 130 ish, according to the one and only IQ test I took, which is probably bullshit, but there you go. :)

What I find very interesting is the U.S. military has a bottom value for IQ, below which you cannot serve. Any discussion?

 
The only thing is that IQ is just one type of intelligence among many kinds of intelligence.

I know guys who have great "mechanical IQ." They can't read or write well, but they can take things apart and put them back together. I was in a National Guard squad with a guy from the 82nd Airborne. He couldn't read or write well. He seemed to misunderstand EVERYTHING. His vocabulary was limited. But the unit mechanics came to him when they had a unsolvable problem with their Humvees.

EQ is another one. I know people with high IQs who can't get along with other people. What good is it to be the smartest guy in the room if everyone can't stand you?

I think that athletic intelligence is another one. Some people can make their bodies do anything. Others can barely walk without tripping.

Verbal intelligence is another. Some people can speak very well, but aren't necessarily smart.

So I don't like minimums for 1 type of intelligence. These people may stand out in other areas.

That is not to say that there aren't people who strike out in all areas. There certainly are.

I guess so, how else would you understand the UI ;-P

More serious CM is a bit like 3d chess with much more variables, so indeed requires a lot of thinking, observation, analysis, reasoning and organization. Which is actually probably why most of us like it; it's not a game where you can learn the trick on a guide suite and never can/have to improve your play.

I'll bite . . . :whistle:

I think a minimum IQ requirement accomplishes the same thing that minimum physical fitness requirements do; establishes a bar below which individuals cannot be properly trained to accomplish the mission. Those who cannot learn the "Army/Navy/Marine/Air Force way" in the time allotted for basic and advanced training will never meet the needs of those military services. That does not demean their human dignity and personal rights. It only means they usually can't be formed into fit soldiers, sailors, marines, or airmen in accord with traditional fashions. :unsure:

If you enjoy playing CM, then you probably enjoy causing devastation to your opponent’s forces, and you probably anguish over the devastation he causes to yours. Not to mention blowing things up (electronically of course). Are you sure you want to know your EQ?

I suppose the preference for hours of solitude spent gazing upon such virtual carnage might deduct from my EQ points too. :cry:
It seems geezer-hood and curmudgeonliness are my appropriate emotional states after all . . . :cautious:

While the idea of EQ makes sense, it is not scientific in reality. It's mostly a hypothetical measurement of "How much of an asshole are you, and can you handle emotional confrontation well"

I agree that it is likely people who engage with RTS games actively are likely going to score with higher marks on an IQ test than the average modern Westerner. The general population has a 7th-9th grade reading and comprehension level (11-15 years of age, approximately). This does not innately make the general population ridiculously less intelligent in every aspect, as everyone is likely to do well in some things rather than others. A Cambridge graduate will, theoretically, not be as intelligent as a Master Chef in practical markets, but will likely be able to comprehend, reason with, and expand upon ideas, theories, and grand scale collaborations more efficiently than the Chef.

Just because science can't measure something, doesn't mean that it isn't there.

Yeah, I think they got you down as too high, mismeasured you or transposed it from 103, so yeah, it's bullshit alright....

Yeah, when I was a kid mine was high enough to join Mensa, which I didn't do. I also aced the military aptitude test, which the local recruiter had my high school give all the boys. Now, after my party hardy life until 35, I think mine is probably about 82, just below the Army cut-off, although I still know how to open a beer and wipe my butt. However, thinking and breathing at the same time is challenging...
