In the works: THE ITALIAN WARS 1494–1498, FOG Medieval: Rise Of The Swiss Campaign

Teaser of something in the works ... Italian Wars 1494-1498 ... a campaign using FOG Medieval: Rise Of The Swiss DLC.

Back-stabbing Renaissance Italy warfare and politics... and then the King of France invades to take try and take over Duchy of Milan and Kingdom f Naples...

Still sorting out kinks in the rules -- probably to start once Reconquista tourney wraps (might also wait until Ancients Empire Builders concludes)

Six active factions (some use Swiss mercenaries, especially France)
Kingdom of France
Republic of Venice
Duchy of Milan
Republic of Florence
The Papal States (yes, the Pope had armies and fought wars in those days...)
Kingdom of Naples

Holy Roman Empire may also send their Landsknechte armies under certain circumstances.

Smaller Italian states (only included a few, as there were far too many if you include free cities) can defend and accept siege, but have no active armies:
Savoy (ally of France), Genoa, Mantua and Siena)

I like the idea, but after summer if it hasn’t started by then.

Have you considered symmetric outcomes, i.e., attacker loses his province if losing the battle?

Interesting idea -- I saw you using it in one of your campaigns over at Slitherine.
Yes, it’s a nice and simple way to get incentive balance in the battles. Both combatants stand to gain a province, both stand to lose one… :)

I've been using Remove the Head (as @Rico says, ends when one of the C-in-Cs are killed in battle) for my Third Century AD Roman civil war campaign "An Empire in Flames". Changes the dynamics of the game, but can also be quite frustrating, since it's about keeping your C-in-C out of combat until he's REALLY needed there. And then you're taking the risk that he'll fall and you'll lose the battle.
 
So here's a screenshot sample of the "deluxe" version with campaign sesaons, differentiated army sizes, sieges and French trains, limitations on using Swiss mercenaries etc... with actually quite few field battles.
(works well -- and one day might want to play it with a few dedicated players.)

NEXT: stripping down rules and play-testing the streamlined, simplified version for general campaign play :2charge:
