Just gauging interest for an FGM Bootcamp.

@Facman I know you're interested.

By no means an expert myself but considering we've got a few people wanting to join our regular outings good way to jump and learn the controls and test weapons. Happy for some of the other vets to join in and point out a few things.

When: Sunday 22nd at say 11am GMT. (2 Hours before the regular Sunday Session)
As I'm on leave then I could also do it after a regular mission and stay up late on my end.

Things to go over (feel free to add more):
- Microphones
- Movement and Stances
- Aiming and Shooting
- Inventory
- Weapon and Vehicles

I'm on leave so no 'school nights' happy to change the time on my end. Just want to avoid getting too close to Christmas that's all.

@Strachwitz - You still picking up ARMA III as an early Chrissy present? (Advise Steam version).

I already bought Arma yesterday. Now just some kind of headphones/mic combo and I am ready to go. I will make my feet wet into some single player stuff the next few days.

Just FYI - Found a good little 'scenario' on the workshop. More a sandbox where one person acts as 'God' and can spawn in anything, change weather settings etc from within mission. So plenty of opportunity for any newbies learning the ropes to try out different weapons, items, vehicles and experience moving around at night etc.

Search for Ithikial on Steam before the weekend and advised to have a headset/mic read to go.

[MP] Clan Training map 1.6
You can find the mission above in the Steam workshop. It has vehicles, helicopters, jets, virtual ammo box, and two firing ranges. This would also be a good map to teach people the basics on just about everything.

So I got Arma 3 up and running. I am not sure if I can join the Bootcamp on sunday but I will be there for the regular Sunday Session. A few questions remain:
For the battlefield communication you guys rely on the Arma 3 internal voice over network? Not a fancy (and oh yes there are really fancy and good one out there) alternative radio mod I have to install right?
Where can I find the name of the server?
What else do I need to know?
Do I have to configure my playing character (equipment, weapon and stuff like that) before joining somewhere or is it done after joining the server?

Just make sure your profile in game is the way you like it, name, face, voice etc. Weapons and equipment (inc uniforms) are all dependent on the scenario being played.

The in game communication works well and we've had no real pressure to switch over to a mod or alternative program. May have to if we a get a full platoon up and running. :)

The server we don't have a dedicated server, Bootie usually hosts and most people get a good ping of under 150. I'm usually the only odd one out in Australia. Happy to reschedule if the current date and time aren't suitable. (And Facman is happy to).

@Facman - FYI.

Thanks for the info Ithikal. So I will look for someone of you on sunday on the servers and join the server. By then I will have familiarized myself with the basic infantry movement, shooting and stuff like that.

Roger that. Do you know if there is going to be a session this Sunday as Bootie has announced he has no time this sunday?

I am getting 'killed' on a regular basis...

As am I, sometimes within minutes of starting the game. I have yet to see the OPFOR that is shooting me. At this point I suspect the game will be one that will rarely see the light of day for me.

I am getting 'killed' on a regular basis...

That kept happening to me as well. Then I learned to run for cover as soon as bullets start flying.
Once I found cover I'd check the map to see where the enemy is.
your AI buddies will have taken a few of them out by then.

Remember your basic infantry training once contact is made:
DASH - COVER - CRAWL - OBSERVE - FIRE

Try it and let me know how it goes

Nathangun is dead on. The AI has Borg like spotting and accuracy so you need to find cover immediately and then shoot and scoot. Once we have enough people we can play against each other and then the firefights will be a little more even.

Yeah, once the AI sees you, they can track you through trees and bushes: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3841474/So_this_is_why_we_die#Post3841474

@Facman @Fredrocker - One thing that helps with the AI lethality is to knock down their skill level. Go to Configure>Game>Difficulty. You'll see a slider for AI Unit Skill. Slide it down to .40 or so. It makes the game a little more enjoyable. Even though the AI can still track you, their chances of hitting you are less. As far as you not being able to see them, it happens. I was playing a mission today, and about half the time I couldn't see what my AI squad was shooting at, even when the enemy unit was marked on the map. I just let them fire away while I got behind some cover.
