For the aficionado of WWII history, The myths of the German -Russian War 1941-1945.From a lecture at the Army War College.
There were 5 "Forgotten Battles" never put into the history books, one of which was the largest tank battle that cost the Russians 3000 tanks and the Germans over 500.
Historians still ponder why Hitler waited until June 22 to invade when the consensus is that had he done so earlier he may have won the day by reaching Moscow before the Russian winter and forced Stalin to sue for peace. The reason stated here is because of the climatic situation in the eastern area of operation. Heavy late rains made June 22 the earliest date possible.
Russian losses were over 5 million by December 1941.
Lecture starts at 5 minute mark after the introduction and some small talk. the site at the bottom is general war info site.
