Groomed as the Fuhrer's successor, Goring loved to entertain lavishly at his grand manor house and was seldom seen without a glass of fine wine and a cigar in his hand.

Immensely powerful, he amassed a huge personal fortune by seizing scores of properties, looting art collections and enjoyed the life of an aristocrat on his vast estate in the Schorfheide Forest in Brandenburg, near Berlin.
