The sign of Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) is displayed on a truck in a slum, or favela, in the area of Copacabana where fighting between the police and drug dealers is continuing on December 7, 2009 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is estimated that there are over 1,000 favelas in Rio where violent crime is rampant. The police are attempting a softer touch in many favelas by participating in community policing after they clear the area of drug gangs. It is believed that the police want to continue with these programs citywide ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games. As Brazil prepares to host the 2016 Summer Olympics international scrutiny is falling on Rio de Janeiro`s favelas where over 5,000 people were murdered last year alone. In the last week violence in tourist areas has increased as drug gangs are increasingly reacting to an increased police presence in the favelas. In figures released Tuesday by the IBGE statistics agency it was found that an average of 68 young Brazilian men died violently each day between 1998 and 2008. These numbers included murder, traffic accidents and gang violence involving the police.

That´s police unit is more like their similar in Israeli anti-terror commandos them just a policy unit, was created when Drug dealers in their personal fortresses in all favelas hills around Rio begun getting AK47, AA machine guns, RPGs, MORTARS!!! and was found until a Milan Anti Car Missile system, all to shoot at conventional policy climbing that hills, and allways killing a lot of civilians in that warlikes fire fight´s, it´s estrange for a lot of outsiders, but in Rio we have Favelas around all hills with Luxuries condominiums and millionaire apartments 1500 yards from this, some times close as 500yards, a lot of people had their luxurious walls holed bye some kind of war caliber it´s all in Rio de Janeiro, second largest city of Brazil and one of most beautiful citys in the world, who saw knows that.

That BOPE have a lot of controversial actions for civil society and humans rights people, their incursions and ROE include all terrorist tactics all you know around the world, Climbing favelas in middle of the night to do butty hunt when a policy officer downed for drug dealer, go, get kills, anyone spotted with a gun, and run away. Hijacking drugdealers families, and not jail anyone, just killing any drug master their can get in self defense.

This battalion will do protections around all sides in world cup final in Maracanam arena at Rio.
