So DJ and I have played several games over the past year and they have all been good fun. DJ is an aggressive player and hates to give up. His aggressive style makes for exciting matches. Yesterday, he publically challenged me to a new game and Floki suggested we do a DAR, which DJ and I agreed to. This is my side of it.

DJ wanted Germans, which is unusual, as he usually picks the Yanks. My guess is he is probably tired of losing Shermans to my Panthers, heh, heh. I fully admit to being a "cherry picker" when it comes time to select forces, and this game is going to showcase that nicely.

Since DJ chose sides, and wanted a Medium battle, he left the rest of the options to me. This will be a meeting engagement. Map selection is always the hardest part for me. I don't really want a long, drawn out engagement since this is a DAR. I finally selected Holland map 026.

Conditions are September, 1944, daytime, clear weather, and the Rarity is set to None (heh, heh). I set the time limit to 30 minutes, as I don't want a lot of dilly-dallying in this game.

DJ probably expects me to pick Yanks, but I've got a surprise for him. Here's a hint:

Aye tis be a battle I shall watch and raise my horn to both combatants

And of course to the victor go all the spoils and here gentlemen is what you be fight'n fer

So here we have my force pick. Note that this will *not* reflect the starting positions of my troops. It is just to show you the forces I selected.

This is a smallish map for a medium force pick, and the victory location takes up a big chunk of the center. I will be surprised if either side manages to drive the other completely out of the VL. Following that logic, I believe the winner of the match will be determined not by control of the single VL, but by casualties.

So forcepick is as follows:

1 company of infantry, minus one platoon, and reinforced by two onboard medium mortar teams and two Churchill tanks. All Veteran, +1 morale, with the exception of the sniper team, which I bought up to Elite +2.

Four Veteran +1 Firefly's, because I know DJ is gonna buy Panthers and possibly Tigers in an attempt to exact some Payback from our previous games. Heh.

Analysis: This game is going to be won/lost based on the Armor. The infantry are just there to support the armor and hold ground. I don't believe either of us will succeed in driving the other completely out of the large VL.

FYI: I recently started a new job working three 12 hour shifts (8am-8pm) Saturday/Sunday/Monday. I will not be doing any turns those three days.

Turn 1 (well, the first turn beyond the setup turns):

No Germans spotted. I moved all four of my Fireflies up to some high ground on my right flank. I was hoping DJ would give them something to shoot at, but he did not. My ground forces are using a combination of Quick and Move to advance on the VL. I have chosen to have the 2 Churchill tanks try to negotiate the forest on my left flank. I believe we will wind up doing a good deal of our fighting in the forested areas in the center of the VL.

First blood (one of DJ's troops received a red cross)!

So, DJ bought at least one Panther. I'm shocked! He's hiding it beside a building on the extreme edge of the map on my left flank. Wouldn't want it to get a scratch on the paint, don't you know. I've got a 95mm Churchill with some HEAT rounds facing that direction, but without eyes on the Panther. The other Churchill is a 75mm. I have a squad in the building that can see the Panther, but they are going to beat a hasty retreat because I know what's coming next turn.......75mm HE right at that building.

Lot's of action this turn. First, on my left flank, DJ is doing something with a half squad, trying to sneak them around a building. What, I don't know, but it's probably not good, so my troops mowed them down. Shoot first, ask questions later. Murica, baby! No...wait, I'm playing Britain. Ah yes, well, a cup of tea is in order to salute the brave lads.

Meanwhile, on my right flank, DJ is charging what seems to be an entire platoon of troops across a wheat field. I've learned, in the several games that DJ and I have played, that he is not afraid to sacrifice men to achieve a goal. DJ would make a great Soviet field commander.

Also, another Panther revealed! That's two that I know of. It's time for me to do some "manurevering".

LOL about the Midnight special.....reminds me of not too long ago my wife and I were at a fancy dinner party at a friends house. Me and the guys started reminiscing about the show Midnight Special so we started to google utube vids of it. We soon took it downstairs to the basement and all got stinking drunk googling our favorite bands.

My wife was not too happy with me come morning. LOL

Next turn is in. I lost my 95mm Churchill to Panther fire. Also, my troops in stone buildings are taking casualties from DJ's troops in the wheat field, in spite of having a height advantage. Not a good turn for me.

Next turn I'm moving a Firefly around on my right flank to try get a flanking shot on one of DJ's Panthers. I'm also moving two more Fireflies forward to engage that same Panther and the troops in the wheat field.

Tis always good to drink a shot of Canadian whiskey anytime one loses a tank......yes I tend to get very drunk when I play.

Hi and welcome back!

DJ's fanatically evil skum of the earth forces continue to push forward. They seem to have the luck of the devil as my troops in stone building continue to take casualties whilst DJ's "children of the corn" seem to be immune to small arms fire.

I'm moving some troops and armor around.

Here is what I think of my current situation.

Nice flanking manoeuvre over on the right Meat, hope it comes off and you get a flank shot at the Panther.

Thanks. Well, it didn't quite work out that way. What happened was both my flanking Firefly and the Panther it was stalking took TC casualty from small arms fire, both popped smoke, and the Panther backed off.

Next turn, we had some action. Here is some drama on my left flank:

I was attempting to Quick a PIAT team out of the building to get a side shot at the stationary Panther. Well, they ran into a bit of trouble in the form of several German troopers who were (I guess) attempting to enter the building. A firefight ensued, which resulted in two casualties to each team and the remainders of the German team retreating. The only member left of the PIAT team, which happened to be the one with the PIAT, took a shot at the Panther, and it seems he managed to hit the single fucking tree instead of, you know, the huge-ass Panther that was right in front of him. He then decides to run away. I'll order him back next turn for another try.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the map, we have Fireflies firing at the Children of the Corn (or wheat, whatever), and causing several casualties. The sneaky one that lost it's TC last turn managed to take out.....a German truck. Hey, I'll take it. I now see a lot of German casualties in the wheat field, so that definitely was a costly advance for DJ. It looks like he is trying to flank my flanking Firefly with the Panther that lost the TC. This should be interesting.

DJ also has a lot of troops in the wooded middle section of the map, so I'm pulling back what remains of the two half squads that I had positioned there. I have also now detected a third Panther moving towards the buildings. Great.

Here is another video. The end of it has a "fly-by" of the map to hopefully give you an idea of what is happening.

Analysis: I still don't think either of us will be able to completely push the other off the single, large VL, so the casualty count will determine the winner. I really need to take out a Panther or two.
