CM Cold War - Proxy Wars Campaign Test

Discovered something interesting in CM Cold War ... if in Scenario Editor (or settings of Quick Battle) you select location as the NTC (National Training Centre) any map will change from this... QB, scenario or campaign maps.

...to this:

All trees/forest gets changed to small trees & bushes... all ground changed to dry/semi desert scrubland... houses look a little weird (although can be edited to get out the "German"look)

US vehicle camo adjusts automatically (although not all vehicles have desert version -- late M-60, Abrams and Bradley don't seem to...

Soviet vehicles keep their green paint scheme ... but doesn't look too bad either.

Thinking definite proxy war campaign potential (not to mention we are already very close to Arab/Israeli 1973 War DLC -- just need Israeli Centurions) ;-)

Well Cold War is meant to be a sandbox...so the more new kit and countries that get added the more possibilities will present themselves.

What's this all about, I hear you ask?... well, I have been toying with a little fun small-scale FICTIONAL Cold War era proxy war... a little fight over the small barren island of Raffa ... (think Persian Gulf or eastern Med) - long ago deforested and soil-eroded...home to a few sheep farmers and small fishing communities and a few small coastal spots and beaches with a few German tourists.

Thanks to off-shore oil and gas discovered in Lefkara Bay in the 1978, suddenly Raffa is hotly disputed between two small countries (with not-so-savoury govts of the socialist or military dictatorship flavour, and respectively kitted out with US and Soviet equiment -- not of the newest models either) -- nationalistic fervours are stoked and a small-scale conflict escalates as both sides drip-feed in reinforcements from the nearby mainlands, mostly at night via clapped out surplus ex-WW2 LCT's. The fact that neither side has much of a navy beyond a few mine sweepers and patrol craft, and the few modern planes of their air forces too precious and expensive to risk -- doesn't help here either.

Units are platoon-sized mech infantry or infantry with some tanks thrown in -- M-48's and T-62'smostly. A few attack choppers here and there etc etc...

This island reminds of another one :) Malatya is placed wrong btw :) it is in the mainland.

Very cool stuff! I don't own CM:CW and currently don't intend to buy it, but will be following any tourney or campaign featuring it with great interest! (y)

A quick note on the mods -- they are all basically tagged [ntc] (National Training Centre) and will kick in when the NTC is selected as a battle setting - converts any existing map into a dry/bush/semi desert scrubland map like the ones I screenshotted from above.

The idea, if this campaign ever flies, would be to issue a mod pack for all the players to use in their battles.
