Hello Cold Warriors!
Round 2 / Battle 3 Start date is Monday January 2, running through Friday February 6.
After this weekend, there will likely be two R2 Battle #2 matches still going, so I'm hoping those folks can double up until the prior round matches are completed. If that's not possible, then let me know and I will make other arrangements.

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW PASSWORD RULES BELOW!!!!

Round 2 / Battle 2 Description:

Having punched a hole in the flank of the Soviet advance, the US forces are now pushing to exploit into the Soviet rear. Between the failed progress at the tip of their armored spearheads and this latest threat, the Soviet advance has come to a halt. The US is pushing down the secondary road net as the autobahns are too much of a target for aircraft, and are now poised outside the town of Dorfborn. The Soviets are scrambling to reinforce a defensive force already present near Dorfborn, to block the US exploitation.
Soviet victory here will force NATO to sue for peace, and the Soviets may keep their gains. A US victory will keep hope alive.

Battle Type: US/BLUE PROBE
Battle Size: MEDIUM
Duration: 30 minutes
Region: Germany
Date: May 1979
Map Preview: Allowed
Combat Force Type: Mixed
Force Adjustment: None

Weather: Clear (or as agreed between players)
Ground: Dry (or as agreed between players)
Electronic Warfare: None

Map: "Dorfborn (1712x1952)," which is attached below.
This map has many similar features to the Aufenau map for Round 1, Battle 3: there is a town which contains 2 major objectives, and an outlying minor objective. There are plenty of routes of approach for the attacker, and the defender only starts with possession of one objective.
  • There are no limits on types of unit purchases beyond those noted in the Artillery/Air Support section, below.
  • Artillery and Air Support is allowable, for a limit of two additional Formations in total per battle (e.g. 2 artillery batteries, or 1 artillery batteries + 1 aircraft unit, or 2 aircraft units). These are *in addition to* any organic assets that are part of the formation. Note that 1 "air unit" may include multiple aircraft.
  • No artillery into the set-up zones for the first 5 turns.
Attacker Arty @ Turn 1: Yes
Defender Arty @ Turn 1: Yes
Attacker TRP: Yes
Defender TRP: Yes
Attacker Air @ Turn 1: Yes
Defender Air @ Turn 1: Yes

Reminders:
  • Either player may set up the Dropbox and/or the Game.
  • Dropboxes should include my email ( tfdunganjr@gmail.com ).
  • NEW / PLEASE READ!!!!! Due to problems with excessively slow play (w/ no communication) and abandoned games, and lack of compliance with password sharing that would allow me to get games finished, I will be assigning passwords to each player via PM. SlySniper does this with his tournaments and it seems to work well, so I'm going to copy the best. Please use the assigned password sent via e-mail (no caps). Failure to do this will result in me not scoring your game, and you can explain that to your opponent.
Let me know if you have any trouble and I will try to help get it resolved!

Gentlemen -
Here's what I have for current status:
R2B3 First.jpg

If you've started but I haven't reflected it in the above table, please double-check that you have invited me to the Dropbox.

If you are having problems getting in touch with your opponent, or if you are unable to start, please let me know.

Note that the magic number for a Soviet victory in this round (and therefore, for the tournament) is around 145 points.

I will be away for work (Taiwan, this time) for a week. You may see me online, but I won't be able to take turns or access Dropbox. Be good! :)

OK Roger that. That is super weird for a probe. Usually the defender has all the objectives. I supose this is not a typical QB setup though so I shouldn't be surprised. OK then. Setup time it is then...
Note the leftern part of the town where you can setup is being blocked by the objective.

I think my game is setup backwards. This is supposed to be a blue probe so I picked a defensive force but I believe I am in the attack setup zone:

Wow I really should of taken a look at Reds setup zone. My attack would of been completely different. I just assumed, like any other Probe/Attack, the defender would start with occupying all the objectives. BIG MISTAKE!

In the Round 1 Battle 3 Probe, the US had 1 objective that was outside of the setup zones.
Yes, this US “Probe” mirrors the Soviet “Probe” in Round 1, Battle 3 as mentioned In the description. In both cases the idea was to have a battle somewhere between a Probe and a Mtg engagement where the defender was trying to complete occupation of the objectives before arrival of the attacker.

Apologies for slow responses to any questions. I got back last week from an overseas trip and I have been feeling unnaturally tired since. Normally I get back on schedule after 2-3 days but this has persisted for more than a week. When I get home from work all I want to do is fall asleep- no energy for gaming:(. .

Hello all-
Below is a snapshot of where we are for this round.
Some folks are making good progress, and I am seeing a LOT of different strategies and force selections from both sides, which is really cool.

We've had a number of late starts due to the need to re-assign some matchups. I've had to knock a few people out for this round due to lack of communication or slow/no play. We also had one voluntary withdrawal due to RL conflicts, which stinks for that person, but for which I appreciate the personal accountability.
A big thank you to those of you who communicate when you will be away or delayed.

Note there are also 2 battles from the prior matchups that are still in progress (but both ARE progressing).

So you could give me even more of a headache ?:D

But I must say I was surprised that your entire infantry came in on foot. I intended to give your (supposed) mechanized troops a bit of a scare with my pre mortar fire but it was for nothing except for a bit of fireworks. Regardless of that your troops seem to be at least as fast as they would with their APCs. As soon as your arty stopped their fire, your GIs stood at my doorstep...spooky.
