[h=2]Thousands of dormant investigations into former Nazi death camp guards have been reopened because of the conviction of John Demjanjuk[/h]
Demjanjuk is currently appealing his sentence but the authorities are pushing ahead because even the youngest of the other suspects are in their 80s.
Efraim Zuroff, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre's top Nazi-hunter, is also launching a new campaign - a successor to his Operation Last Chance.
He said the Demjanjuk conviction has opened the door to prosecutions that he had never thought possible.
"It could be a very interesting final chapter. This has tremendous implications even at this late date," he said.
