Got the game yesterday evening -- looks very cool -- anyone else got it and up for a try out PBEM Battle to kick the tyres on this baby?

Of course -- goes without saying, last minute touches to the campaign below over the weekend (like matching the heraldry for the Toulouse and Burgundy factions on the counters and map to what's available in the game -- it's fictional anyway), and we are ready for some medieval mayhem.

HA! It's out now is it? Nathangun slams door, sound of footsteps, car engine starting and then accelerating off into the distance.. returns fives minutes later. Got it! :)

First battle up and running against @Bootie -- he picked the Scots, I have the English ... he has the hill, and it's bristling with pikes and spears (it shall forever be known as Porcupine Hill)

My knights have to go the long way round to find some kind of flank or opening...

Looks like you have plenty of "assault tanks" (knights), punch a hole and roll...

So @Rico. which one is more interesting/has more variety (in unts) in your opinion? FOG2 or FOG medieval? Is the infantry locked in static melee in Medieval a thing cf. FOG2?

FOG Medieval is just a limited expansion covering a limited time period and mostly northern/western Europe and Mongol invasions (they probably will follow up with a Crusades DLC) ... and then possibly into high middle ages of plate armour, Agincourt and first firearms to pike & shot formations.

FOG II, which with it's DLC's covers a HUGE time span from ancient Egyptian/Assyrian chariots to Macedonian phalanxes to all the different phases or Roman warfare and then Dark Ages and Vikings and the Archer Horse armies -- each period very very different -- yes infantry locked in static melee can be a facet of many periods, especially Roman legion battles.

The capabilities of all units vary greatly over all the periods ... with impact of cavalry waxing and waning over time...

Thnaks, finally got FoG2; the unit variety looks more exciting in just the base game than Medieval for my first dabble. And somewhere, someone mentioned that FOG2 had more tactical maneuver than Medieval. So...
