FOG: Medieval - Pot Luck Battles - Mad Mike vs Rico

@Mad Mike and I have been playing a series of casual FOG: Medieval Pot Luck battles and have decided to keep track of them on this simple, fun "campaign"map.

The first Army selected in the Pot Luck determines the location of the battle.
If it's a region we've played for before, we'll fight over it again.

I've dropped our last 4 results on to the map -- so far honours are pretty even.
(we're not playing Mirror Battles, so some of the selection might be a bit skewed, but so far it's been working out pretty okay)

Current battle has me playing the Anglo-Saxons (1066) playing vs @Mad Mike 's Germans (SE) (1050 - 1154).

Battle ends in a crushing German victory ... the Anglo-Saxon Huscarls wilted in the face of the German cavalry.
Looks like we changed history -- turns out it was the Germans not the Normans who conquered England in 1066 ... Herman the Conqueror, not William.

I managed to win the All-Irish brawl 62 - 50 = +12%

For our next battle, we refight for possession of North Africa -- Pot Luck has given us:

Berber (Hafsid) (1351 - 1449) vs Berber (Marinid) (1320 - 1449)

... another brawl, this time with camels... and sand.

@Mad Mike won the desert battle to capture NORTH AFRICA from me -- given @Mad Mike a 4 -2 lead in Provinces controlled.

Our next Pot Luck battle takes us to NORTH ITALY: Venetian (1320 - 1399) vs German (Imperial) (1320 - 1374)
(we take turns in setting up the pot luck battles.)

I have the Venetians, who are on balance more heavily armoured troops, but are mostly mercenaries, which makes their reliability a bit dicey.

Mamma Mia! -- that was quite traumatic thing to watch.

New battle up: Moldavians (1400-1429) vs Rus (1380- 1469) -- we're refighting for possession of WALLACHIA & BULGARIA region.

@Mad Mike has returned to the battle field from his extended summer holidays... and we resume battle in ANATOLIA.

Ottoman Turkish (1362-1429) vs White Sheep Turcoman (1402-1469) -- he gets the Ottomans and looks like his Janissaries are ready to kick ass!

After my White Sheep Turcomans got overrun and routed with indecent haste the battle moved to France -- where my Aragonese came out winners, even after @Mad Mike 's French killed off 3 of my 4 generals.

Our next pot luck battle is somewhat unusual: Christian Nubian (1050-1174) vs Fatamid Egyptian (1074-1171)

I got the Nubians -- definitely have never played them before -- hopefully I can finally catch up and draw level with @Mad Mike 's lead.

A quick catch up covering the period of the great FGM Crash of 2024.

I managed to win the battle with my Nubian army ... we moved on to NW Germany for Scots (Continental) vs German Feudal -- @Mad Mike bossed this one as the Scots with his
dismounted men at arms and longbow men dominating the brawl.





We moved up to Scandinavia with me playing Danes and @Mad Mike the Teutonic Order -- the Danes prevailing in this one, the fancy over-priced Teutonic Order knights disappointing.





Which resulted in us bouncing down back to refight for control of North Italy.... it's my hapless Milanese mercenaries against @Mad Mike 's Swiss pike formations ... it's not pretty.

Against all expectations, my Milanese mercenaries managed to prevail against @Mad Mike 's Swiss pike formations ... still not sure how I managed that.

That means control of NORTH ITALY now falls under control of the RED Empire.

We move right along to HUNGARY & SERBIA -- where it's Rus (1470-1500) (me) vs Hungarians (1441-1500) (@Mad Mike )

Should be a fun battle.

Against all expectations, my Milanese mercenaries managed to prevail against @Mad Mike 's Swiss pike formations ... still not sure how I managed that.

Quantity over quality, plus really hard to pin your units down to achieve any kind of result. Well played..

Just realised I haven't updated here for a while.

@Mad Mike captured HUNGARY & SERBIA.

The action the moved to CYPRUS were @Mad Mike 's Crusaders crushed my Cypriot defenders.



This means we draw level with 7 provinces each. (although @Mad Mike does have a 10 - 8 lead in battle victories)

The next pot luck battle moves us to CENTRAL ITALY:

Time to update here as well:

@Mad Mike çaptured CENTRAL ITALY -- my German dismounted knights especially not coming to the party in this one.

The action has moved to the BALTICS where it's my Baltic Tribes (1050-1283) vs @Mad Mike 's Lithuanians (1100-1299).
He has lots of cavalry and archers, I have mostly foot and some mounted nobles ... hilly and forested map ... let's see how that plays out -- I have a points deficit to catch up

Time for another update.

In the above battle for the BALTICS my Baltic Tribes army managed to defeat the Lithuanians -- @Mad Mike was not impressed at all with the Lithuanian cavalry.

Battle then moved to the LEVANT -- where my Syrian Arabs held off @Mad Mike 's Alans for me to retain control of the province.

Our current battle takes place in GREECE:

Me: Byzantine (Epiros) (1320-1359) vs @Mad Mike 's Neapolitan (1320-1399)

A possibly serious mismatch ... despite some early successes by my horse archers to rout a wing of @Mad Mike's reckless mercenary mounted men at arms -- my ragtag line of foot and lighter lancers are about to be slaughtered...LOL
