I´m going to buy a new old gun. So a quick question to american members whom I assume have the most knowledge of the guns I´m about to mention.
I´m kind on the fence wether to buy the Marlin model 55 12 gauge bolt action goose gun with the 36 inch barrel. That thing reeks of badass.
OR! the stevens savage model 94 16 gauge single shot.
The savage goes for around 151$ and the Marlin around 300$ give or take about 30$ in each cases. If you were to choose? what it be?
Just thought it be a fun survey to throw out there for anyone watching :)
My soft spot is definately for the Marlin, but I know that a stevens savage is not to be sneered at.

Not familiar with either one, but 12 gauge shotgun ammo is probably easier to get where you live than 16 gauge.

In the states where ammo can be difficult to get due to shortages sticking to something commonly available is even more crucial. Even in the best of times 16 gauge isn't very common in my area. I suspect that is true in most areas.

12 gauge in all sorts of flavors is always readily available. If you want to get into reloading then maybe 16 gauge is viable.-if you can legally reload in your area.

Don't know what the gun laws are in your area. I suspect pretty restrictive. Back in the days when I lived in Europe gun laws were restrictive. Shotguns though were less restrictive and air guns popular. I shoot airguns as well as all sorts of firearms and German and Czech airgun pellets are very high quality and popular with American air gunners.

I kinda agree on the ammo part. I was actually surprised when I heard 16 gauge was available at stores. But my take on it is that 16 gauge ammo is probally limited when it comes to variety, such as load shot size and brand etc.
Shotgun laws here are still pretty lenient. I could go to the store on monday and walk out with a shotgun that very monday as long as I have my hunters licence which is fairly easy to aquire.
As for reloading. I´m not actually sure how that song goes. It would be nice and interesting to dabble in the world of reloading. IMO brass shotgun casings should make a comeback, cause enviroment...

Gun laws in the states is all over the place. Some states you have to fill out paperwork and wait for a background check to purchase any sort of firearm. Other states you can walk into a store buy military grade small arms and walk right out. Concealed carry permits (CCW) is same story. Even where I reside in-a state with a reputation for being very gun unfriendly, CCWs is issued on a county basis. Some counties will never issue a CCW while others readily issue them.

Fully automatic small arms is restricted in the states. You need a Class C permit and that's a lot of paperwork and taxes. Also importation of fully automatic small arms was banned in the 80's. If you have the paperwork and the cash, though fully automatic weapons are available in the states. Last time I heard starting prices were $20,000.

20000 , ouch!
We used to have rifles here to, but then some clown decided it to be fun to sever a couple of major powers lines with his shooter, rendering a village or two without power.
After that rifles were banned. Rumor has it though that a dusin or two WW2 Lee Enfields are scattered about, not counting the machine guns and various 22´s and your average hunting rifle, and the ocasional grenade.

Unfortunately a few make it bad for the rest of us.
Which is always the case. Go with the 12 gauge and then get reloading equipment. I live in a state where concealed carry is the law of the land. No permits. The way the 2nd amendment should be applied.

I finally decided. I went for the Marlin model 55. It should arrive some time next year.
Thanks for advice.

Nice. What barrel length does it have?
the 36" I believe.

Well it says 90 cm, and 90 cm is pretty much 35,4 something if memory serves.
I notticed some of the models listed with a 35" barrel. Is that an official measurement as far as the guns go?
Anyways. Real excited to get it home.
