Thanks Facman. I tried it myself, and damned if my SSN didn't show up! Started passing it on immediately.

mTk, only reason I can think is that all your military health info is tied into your SSN. Now that everything is automated, they swipe or scan your VA card, and your electronic med files pop up. Makes it easier for them, (especially now that they're using check in kiosks), but more worriesome for us.

Seems like a good system...until you lose your card or get it stolen of course.

Facman, mine was too. And unlike a credit card, the VA can't freeze, cancel or re-issue your SSN.
