Here' an example of America in a bad light...

That´s hard stuff. It shows what we can expect if the current way is continued. And what is next? No help for traffic victims or such only because they look or are impecunious? For me the whole situation expresses only the inaptness of some of the officials. But if people/students/pupils are only seen as numbers and not as humans - what can one expect?

Greetings

Now that is not bad...IT"S RETARDED!
Thank God for good old socialist Canada. We have Breakfast and lunch programs that provide free meals to kids that don't have much at home. Staffed by volunteers in the community. I believe funded a little by the town but mostly by people donating to the cause.

We (USA) have the same programs numbers is talking about. Less fortunate kids receive free breakfast and lunch. Some are even provided with after school meals for schools that have it. So some kids are actually getting three squares a day at no charge to their parents.

This article is concerning the families that do not fall into the under income category and refuse to pay. If you make decent money you are expected to pay for your kids food. Now should the kid get punished for their deadbeat parents? Hell no! It should be handled the same way truancy is. If your kid is chronically absent from school you as a parent are responsible and could pay fines. They should do the same here. If the kid does not have lunch money he is still fed but a notice is sent home alerting the parents to pay up or face fines or imprisonment.

Hell, both my kids probably have a year and half worth of bank in their lunch account. Both actually pack their lunches. I put the money there every year just in case there are days that they want the school food.

This is similar to people buying shit they cannot afford and then claiming bankruptcy. You know what get your priorities straight and put your kids well being at the top of the list. I know I am ranting now but both parties are in the wrong. The parents need to pay their bills and the schools should never deny a child a lunch.

Administrators would be losing their jobs if I was the Super of that school. There are more common sense ways to handle this problem but as you guys know you cannot teach common sense. And it is unfortunate that some people have important jobs that necessitate that quality.

Well said Eniced. Whoever thought up and implemented this ridiculous policy should be fired and never work with children again. The parents who are deadbeats should be dealt with as endangering their children's welfare. And 3 cheers for the kids who shared their lunches with the kids who got turned away.

Thanks. I taught school for a year in Virginia and my wife has been an educator for 12 years here in PA. I don't know how many times she came home to tell me she just went shopping to get some poor kid a winter jacket or boots because his parents are either sending or letting him go to school in a sweatshirt or hoody. Like I said some people just do not have sense.

mate, the one true thing about 'common sense' is that ... it 'aint that common ...... sad to say..

I figured as much and and am glad that this is only a localized issue (I hope).
To bad the children are smarter and more compassionate then the adults.

I'm thinking that mTk was just giving Numberz the business as their interplay is historical, or was that hysterical?

I have to have patience with mTk he is a little slow at times. I believe the Radiation from Fukushima has eaten away his ability to reason.

Another example of a government run program that has just gone off the tracks and out of control. For another example see: http://www.corestandards.org/
The public schools seem to feel that they are above doing the right thing. And of course these people won't be fired. They are well protect from being fired.

I can remember back in school, since my parents were divorcing and my mother and I were on welfare for a bit, I had a free lunch ticket that I had to get every morning before home room bell rang.. Many a time our Bus was last one arriving (over 1 hour bus ride to school) and it would be late due to farm tractors or accidents on the road, meaning we had to go right into home room or sometimes right to 1st period classes. No chance to go get your lunch ticket. Would go thru the line and they'd tell me I needed to have my ticket, and wouldn't let me get my lunch.. never thought more of it, just didn't eat, until 1 day I told my mom because I was eating as soon as I got home instead of waiting until dinner time.. she was pissed... needless to say, she made a few calls and a visit to the school with some social workers.. that resulted in the cafeteria workers keeping all the free lunch tickets at the lunch line, and just having us kids give our names and they'd pull the ticket right there. Never had to go get them in the morning again and always had my lunch after that.
