Looking for some insight into two games

I am currently looking into buying either: Gary Grisby's War in the East, or Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa. I was hoping for some insight into both of these games and your overall opinion of it, even if you have played one but not the other, yet. The one thing that GG's WITE has going for it is that I already own WITW, however I haven't played it much since I bought it, mostly putting it on the shelf due to the complexity and large amount of things you have to learn to play it comprehensively and appreciate the full depth of the game. Decisive Campaigns seems a bit simpler than WITW, sort've like a more detailed and complex game than Panzer Corps or the old Allied General games. I like the look of both, but I also like the added element that DC adds to it where you have to make political decisions as well which can have an additional facet of fun for the game. Both are on Summer Sale for Steam so I want to pick one of them up.

...........aaaaaand go

One thing I will say against GG games is that it take for EVER to get the AI to calculate everything. Example: in WITW just to execute my Air Directives can take upwards to 30 minutes at times, which is hugely frustrating. You submit a turn and you could watch an episode of your favorite show and it still may not be finished... which is rediculous.

It is also somewhat frustrating that the AI will not attack unless its certain that they will win.

I have WITE. I imagine it has many similarities to WITW, so the learning curve should not be too much of a problem for you. But like you say, more of the same, the enjoyment is in the complexity.
If you enjoy this scale but want something different, maybe Hearts of Iron IV would be worth a look - just as complex in its own way. I played a lot of HOI3 and enjoyed it.
I have DC:Barbarossa on my Steam Wishlist but have not pulled the trigger. So many good games on the market!
I enjoy the CM WEGO system and am exploring other games that use this.
If you want a change of pace, have a look at Flashpoint Campaigns - Red Storm.

WITE was tempting me for so long and I took the plunge during a Steam sale. Went silly and went large straight away. Got the hang of it pretty quick but it's a game that's easy to learn, hard to master. I need to go back to it again, my boys are approaching Moscow. :) WITW, no idea but will probably pick up once it heads on over to Steam. Rumours of a merged copy of the two games, if that comes true I'll faint.

I own both, but have never delved deeply into either game. Both are complex. Both take time to learn and to play. The difference is that DC:B adds the political element. You have to manage your relationship with Hitler and others. So that's where the key difference will be. Sorry I can't offer something more substantive.

Thanks for the input fellas. I gave DC: Barbarossa a shot. So far I really enjoy it. The extra element to the game is quite enjoyable.

Excellent buy, one of the best games of late. It takes some time to get the hang of how to manage all the RPG stuff, but it adds a dimension which is very immersive. One tip: take care of your trucks ;)
I bought WiTE on Steam sale with both DLCs as they expand beyond the scope of DC:B and I want the full East Front experience. Haven't really tried it yet. As for the long AI calculations, the latest public beta 1.11 supposedly alleviates that problem. Don't know if there is something like it for WiTW.

@Nathangun - check the WiTE mod forum over at Matrix, there are mods for font size and style for the UI. Seems a bit tricky, but if it keeps you from playing the game maybe it is worth a try.

I've been enjoying DC:B so far. I always wanted WiTE but ended up buying WiTW first, I know I'll get it eventually. It seems to have overwhelming reviews from everyone who is an avid strategy gamer. But so far DC:B has been quite enjoyable with the extra element, you get to read your reports and your "mail" every turn which... I mean who doesn't like mail that isn't bills or fake sweepstakes right?
