John Bolender has been collecting pieces of military history for years. When a distant relative of a World War II veteran responded to one of his newspaper ads, he had no idea what he'd find. "It's big piece of history," he said of his find.
The history came through the lens of Navy photographer Clyde Daughtery, who was assigned to the USS Arrgonne on December 7, 1941. He snapped dozens of pictures and even shot film of that day.
Much of his work was neglected as years went by.
"It was just sitting in a garage. It had previously been in a storage shed and it was just not being well taken care of," Bolender recalled.
There are dozens of pictures shot from Daughtery's perch on the Argonne, which was in dry dock across from what was known as Battleship Row and the USS Arizona, just a few hundred yards away.
