MPs are calling on the government to ban the sale of Nazi memorabilia after items belonging to Holocaust victims were sold at a public auction.
This comes after a tray presented to Hitler as a 50th birthday present went for £28,000 in Bristol last week.
A Commons motion, tabled by Labour MP Fabian Hamilton, condemns this as "profiteering on items promoting and glorifying hatred and violence".
Nazi memorabilia sales are illegal in France, Germany, Austria and Hungary.

Large UK auction houses like Christie's, Sotheby's and Bonhams refuse to sell such material, as does e-Bay.

Funny we limit freedoms that our troops lost their lives to preserve.

I dont know why but I would love to own some WW2 memorabilia. I would not want anything to do with the holocaust but an Iron Cross, a deactivated M1 Carbine or a nice German helmet would be nice just to have a bit of history in my hands.

They fought for the rights of every individual to express their views if another liked it or not. They fought to have the right to buy and sell what ever they wanted...don't impose our culture on theirs. For the good or bad of it they were not as politically correct as we might think we are. One can think what one likes, they fought for that also.

Funny, everything you were thinking of having, I had at one time before giving it all to a local military museum. I found the M1 Carbine very short range & accuracy. Traded it for a handgun which had about the same accurate too. Plus I had German party flag and naval flag. A few party daggers, and an infantry assault. Sold all my guns and pistols after my first son was born, didnt need them anymore and worried about little fingers.
What help me, was my foreman at the time was a WWII collector and sold me the stuff he didnt need anymore. I still remember his full dress SS colonel uniform he had, from boots to the hats, it had everything.

You guys completely missed my point. I'm not against WWII memorabilia in general.

Glad you cleared that one up Terry ......holocaust memorabilia. is a defiant NO NO.......To many details shown of this part of WW 11

Are memorabilia the same thing like militaria in this case? The sale and acquisition of WW2 militaria (even those depciting the Swastika) is allowed under certain conditions.

Hitler busts or similar items obviously that are only meant to glorify a certain person or criminal event are excluded as far as Im aware becasu they don't serve as object of "scientific study and civic education", but technically I would be allowed to, say, own an SS uniform or military decorations or even decorate my appartment with Third Reich flags from top to bottom as long as I keep it PRIVATE.
