Who is that and for what was he widely famous?

I can only hope it´s not too easy for You quiz grandmasters.

Werner Seelenbinder

In 1933 he refused to give the Hitler salute when receiving his medal at the German Wrestling Championship and sports events. He was part of the commusist party also and was later killed in German prison.

i was just reading stuff on the 1939 Olympics... Sempai you have to also pick things that sre not from your country...don't worry I get caught with the same thing at times.

Not bad Numberz but for what he was widely known? A hint - it has to do with his sport.

If it was not for what I already said then may be his touching letter to his father upon his death.

In his farewell letter, he wrote to his father :

The time has now come for me to say goodbye. In the time of my imprisonment I must have gone through every type of torture a man can possibly endure. Ill health and physical and mental agony, I have been spared nothing. I would have liked to have experienced the delights and comforts of life, which I now appreciate twice as much, with you all, with my friends and fellow sportsmen, after the war. The times I had with you were great, and I lived on them during my incarceration, and wished back that wonderful time. Sadly fate has now decided differently, after a long time of suffering. But I know that I have found a place in all your hearts and in the hearts of many sports followers, a place where I will always hold my ground. This knowledge makes me proud and strong and will not let me be weak in my last moments.

this si interesting info also.

Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle was an indoor sporting arena located in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, Germany. It was named after the executed Berlin resistance fighter Werner Seelenbinder, a German wrestling champion at several European championships and 1936 Summer Olympics athlete.

The arena opened in 1950 in what was then East Berlin, in a converted hall that formerly was part of the central cattle market and slaughterhouse complex. It then hosted the first national meeting of the Free German Youth. One of the major sports venues in Berlin in the 20th century, the capacity of the arena was up to 10,000 people.

Until the opening of the Palast der Republik in 1976, East German mass organisation like the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) regularly used the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle as a convention hall. From 1970 to 1990 it was also the site of the annual Festival of Political Songs. On 7 March 1988 Depeche Mode made their East German debut here, followed by The Wedding Present and Jonathan Richman but also by Feeling B and Rio Reiser in the same year.

Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle was finally closed and demolished in 1993. It was replaced by the present-day Velodrom.

I´m very impressed by Your info, Numberz - but it isn´t what I´m up to/out for. Another idea?

My God Sempai ...will have to see if he painted his finger nails now!? LOL I will look into more stuff...you said he was widely famous for something ?

There is a face book page for him.
There is a bronze statue of him.
There is a stamp issues of him.
I believe a street after him or he is also and artist.

Found you picture of him but all is in German and I need to translate...which I can't seem to find the button on my computer.

and there is a Werner Seelenbinder Wrestling Tournament held in Berlin once a year... :)

Ok Sempai we had to have hit one by now? Interesting guy for sure oh was beheaded with an axe if that it...LOL If a person could be recognized for just one of those things it would be something to boast about.

Answers to all - nope!!!

What I search is something he did by his own. And Numberz, You guessed I would ask something what has to do with my nationality. Now You must guess what personel activity it is. More I can´t say - I have almost given away the answer. Sports - famous for - personel activity/action...

@joequ1oeil: His ashes are buried in a stadium named after him near his old flat he had in 1920.
