The Rules of this Quiz.

1] When you post your answer to the questions they must all be answered in full. All 5 of them at once to qualify, if not another person may use your information in their response.

2] I will not respond until at lease 5 guys have tried to answer the quiz. This will hopefully stop those who wait to steal another information.

3] One may only enter the answers once, for every 5 guys that post answers to the quiz. After the fifth guy has posted one may try and answer again following the rules above and of the questions.

4) Goes without saying but...The first to post correctly is the winner.

Question Number 1

After the Truce of Christmas Day 1914, what did the commanding officers have a hard time to get their men to do? What did they do to remedy the situation?

Question Number 2

Provide a picture of a Poster or Christmas Card or a letter...but they must be of vintage of any war with a Christmas theme. They must be different from the posters, cards, and letters of those posted before you in this quiz section.

Question Number 3

Provide a picture of a Christmas tree ornament with the image of a famous leader on it.

Question Number 4

Name 5 battles fought on Christmas day.

Question Number 5

Where are these pictures taken?

I take it that there are lots looking, and everyone is getting their ducks in a row. 50 views...hope this is not to hard?

1 - II Corps HQ [General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien] issued an instruction to commanders of all Divisions: "It is during this period that the greatest danger to the morale of troops exists. Experience of this and of every other war proves undoubtedly that troops in trenches in close proximity to the enemy slide very easily, if permitted to do so, into a "live and let live" theory of life...officers and men sink into a military lethargy from which it is difficult to arouse them when the moment for great sacrifices again arises...the attitude of our troops can be readily understood and to a certain extent commands sympathy...such an attitude is however most dangerous for it discourages initiative in commanders and destroys the offensive spirit in all ranks...the Corps Commander therefore directs Divisional Commanders to impress on subordinate commanders the absolute necessity of encouraging offensive spirit... friendly intercourse with the enemy, unofficial armistices, however tempting and amusing they may be, are absolutely prohibited"

I see only Bootie has attempted to post an answer....I see improvement to some of his answers especially # 1 if some one wishes to attempt it...and I may have to chose between ornaments if there are better ones....

Or if no one else attempts it I win by default. :)
well that could happen also...but I will give a day or two to see if there are any other takers...good on the Churchill Ornament I saw another interesting one also.

1. And the Manchester Guardian's Paris Correspondent wrote on January 6, 1915: "The sequel was more interesting than the event itself. The French and German soldiers who had thus fraternised subsequently refused to fire on one another and had to be removed from the trenches and replaced by other men."

Good job Richtig, but I still see improvements to be made in some of the answers.

I used the word improvements to hopefully stimulate other to try, this may have been a wrong tactic which will not be happening again. You both have answers that are wrong and right...I say the time lapse has expired on these questions. So I will award points for the questions answered correctly. I know this is not consistent with my rules set out at the start but am exercising my prerogative as Quiz Moderator.

Bootie is to receive 4 points for correct answers (posting first) on all but the first one which was answered more directly by Richtig who receives 1 point for the first question being correct and also others. Richtig fails in question number 4 I was looking for Battles that were fought "ON Christmas Day " not over a period including Christmas.

I would like to try and do a New Years set of Questions if that is Ok with you Bootie. May be you would like to try it...I was thinking of a New Years theme may be 7-10 questions and allowing guys to post to any one(or more) they wish to and receive points for correct answers. Any ideas or suggestions I am open guys.

Also Congrats Richtig for now being on the Quiz ladder you are in position 16 along a few others...9 more right and you receive a Quiz Master ribbon. Nice ornaments...trying to wow me with multiple pictures is a good try ;)

No worries Numberz, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...

Thanks for the work setting the quiz.

Well that was close....

As for a New Year Quiz I dont believe the format was a success.... only 2 people attempted it. But as the Quiz Master I leave it up to you. :)

Well I am back now and healthy again...Had the grand kids for the holidays and they made us all sick...LOL Little rug rats...

I chalk up the lack of success due to Christmas and the guys not being here as much...Now I will give it another kick at the cat as we say here in the Great White North.
