I remember my oldest brother saying once, long ago, when someone asked him why our interest in war was so strong and he said something to the effect of: "If it weren't for the death and the destruction wrought on by war, it would be man's greatest endeavor".
There is something to the life and death struggle, the strategy and tactics, the technology and power all combined and focused on one objective that does point to, perhaps, war being mans greatest endeavors.
After seeing this thread I did some searching on the subject and found two quotes that struck me the deepest.
Magnificent! Compared to war all other forms of human endeavor shrink to insignificance.

But, that being said, after being a student of war and combat for some 50 years, I have come to my own conclusion that perhaps Peace is mankind's greatest endeavor.
