A Year In The Valley

It was supposed be an easy mission. Take your platoon, recon the village, meet with the tribal elders, maybe share a cup of tea. All that went out the window the moment an IED exploded beneath the vehicle in front of you. As your driver skids to a halt RPGs and machine guns begin to fire from the high ground. The first vehicle is in flames, your men are in a killing zone, and air support is at least 15 minutes away. What now sir?

Welcome to the Valley. It's going to be a long year.

A Year In The Valley is a campaign supplement for Fireteam To Fireforce ( or CM) tasking a platoon sized force to conduct counter-insurgency operations against a dug in and determined enemy. Develop your force into eagle eyed troopers to spot dangerous IEDs, or into tough veterans ready to lay down their lives for each other. Then, take the fight to the enemy with new rules for on board light mortar support, recon drones and Quick Reaction Forces.

A dozen new missions, a host of new traits for your troops, and a system for generating personalities for the enemy leadership, the campaign supplement introduces robust solo-play options for Fireteam To Fireforce players. Weigh the needs of increasing popular opinion against the safety and fatigue level of your troops, and try to survive A Year In The Valley.

Hind & Seek (Soviet-Afghan War)

Hind & Seek also implements a reputation system: Certain actions will cause a faction to lose reputation with the locals and other actions will cause them to gain it. If the Soviets drop anti-personnel mines near a village, the local population will be more inclined to help the Mujahideen in future. Lose enough reputation and the enemy faction will start to gain strength, making the fights even harder.

In this way Hind & Seek suits a kind of campaign play where each battle influences the next. One-off Scenarios are also provided for and just as fun. 5 Scenarios are included which can be used for one-off games or campaign play.

These rules are based on the real-life accounts of actual combatants, largely from the books The Bear Went over the Mountain and The Other Side of the Mountain. Care has been taken to make the game feel like a Soviet-Afghan wargame; The Soviets may be able to take lots of tanks and helicopters, but when the enemy is ambushing from hidden positions on high ground, the tanks wont be able to target them and the helicopters wont even know where they are. Tanks will need to back off from areas of high ground in order to get a shot and helicopters will have to spot the hidden ambushers, or rely on information from the ground in order to work out where the Dushman (Enemy) are.

In the end this game is all about asymmetrical warfare and providing the feel and tactics of the period. The game naturally encourages real-life tactics and unit organizations (although example soviet organizations are also provided) and each faction has its own unique tactical choices and challenges to overcome.

Run your own invented campaign or use the included systems to:

*Conduct "Hearts and Minds" peacekeeping in a foreign land (or throw the invaders out)

*Fight to prevent the "Domino Theory" from coming true.

*Engage the NATO/Warsaw Pact while hoping the conflict does not escalate out of control.

Brush wars, low intensity conflicts, proxy wars, third world conflicts have been popular war gaming material for many years.

This unique campaign supplement gives you all the tools to run a campaign set in a small, third world nation embroiled in armed conflict:

A nation generator for players who enjoy creating imaginary nations to do battle.

A military generator to help determine the nature and quality of your armed forces.

Simply generate your campaign and then use your favourite wargame rules to conduct the tabletop operations.

This supplement is particularly well suited to solo gamers but can be used with great success by gaming groups as well.

War Story

Warstory is a set of tools for narrative wargaming scenarios.

A narrative wargame flows more like a role playing game or storytelling game. Ideally suited to cooperative, solo and Game Mastered play, players use simple tools to declare actions, resolve them and build the ongoing storyline.

Send forward an RPG team to knock out a tank? Storm an enemy position? Carry out a combined arms attack? Deliver a stirring speech to a demoralized subordinate?

Simply determine the odds and roll for the consequences.

While written with a 20th century framework in mind, the rules could be adapted to most any period and any scale of warfare, from man to man skirmishing to battalion or brigade level warfare.

Warstory includes tools for resolving common actions, a simple and fast scenario and force generator, random event tables and more.

Please be advised that this is not a strict, extensive rules set, aimed at providing answers to every possible situation.

Warstory is heavily inspired by the "Kriegspiel game" approach to wargaming, where storytelling and creativity take the forefront.

FiveCore Brigade Commander

145835-thumb140.jpg

This system could use CM to resolve battles.

"Colonel, we have contacts all along the front. The enemy is advancing along multiple routes of attack. What are your orders?"

FiveCore Brigade Commander puts you in the largest-scale FiveCore game yet.

Each stand is a company, supported by platoon level attachments. A typical game fields a brigade/regiment on each side and is playable in an hour to an hour and a half on a 3x3 foot table or even smaller.

With the fast playing FiveCore mechanics, you have an unpredictable turn sequence, forcing you to adapt to the unfolding battle and a quick firing mechanic that tells you immediately what happened, without any follow-up damage rolls or morale tests.

Covering from the inter-war period to the present day, Brigade Commander also includes campaign rules, reference sheets, tools for solo play and a scenario generator for the complete gaming experience.

Whether you are interesting in world war 2, cold war or imaginary conflicts between made-up countries, Brigade Commander will help you put your toys on the table and getting a game going with as little difficulty as possible.
