Remaining mysteries of WW2?

German submarine U-977 was a World War II Type VIICU-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine which escaped to Argentina after Germany's surrender. The submarine's voyage to Argentina led to many legends, apocryphal stories and conspiracy theories that together with U-530 it had transported escaping Nazi leaders (including Hitler himself) and/or Nazi gold to South America, that it had made a 66-day passage without surfacing, that it had made a secret voyage to Antarctica, or even that it would be involved in the sinking of Brazilian cruiser Bahia as the last act of the Battle of the Atlantic. So many questions around this sub!!

The unsettled question of all the german submarines what vanished without a sign (same topic as U-977, 530 and 465), why was Hitler interested to get terrain at East Antarctica - Neuschwabenland, was there really an Operation Highjump undertaken by Amiral Byrd and why there were about 4000 men necessary and 15 ships (task force 68) if so - and what´s up with Byrd´s mystery words about the vulnerability of USA - was there really a hasty retreat with a loss of 9 airplanes - if so - why?, what´s up with Hitler´s talk with Mannerheim - fake or not (Rochus Misch says probably fake), why stopped Erich Raeder the development of the Walther Drive, why Hitler ordered a halt for the Wehrmacht´s advance so Dunkirk could happen, is it true Wall Street financed Hitler, why the Nazis put so much effort into the research of paranormal and supernatural "science". That only for a start.

Why did the world let Hitler build a Spartan country in 1933...
ie... School children learning how to take apart rifles as part of the normal schooling, etc.

Hello Nelson 1812! I assume it was the same reason East Germans had to learn such things during the Wehrunterricht. East Germany wanted a healthy, strong and intelligent man to get the soldiers of tomorrow. But they learned it not before the 8th class. To that time it was thought they had to consider their further career. Sometimes "recruiters" turned up from now on to see the progress (or the contrary ;)) of the candidate. From the 8th class it were only two years yet until the youth got out of school and decided for different careers/jobs. And even the conscription wasn´t far anymore. GST (Gesellschaft für Sport & Technik) was another component what was used to make a better base for the military education/career later on. Further all East germans should at least be combat ready in a general way - if not even in the military. In that aspect, at least is that my personal opinion, the government agreed with the soviet occupants. Albeit because of different reasons. Russians wanted a spearhead of foreign/german military in case of a war with the NATO. Germans wanted to be independent - a fortiori since one thought on a reunion with the other Germany. And therefor a high combat readiness was necessary. Too well fixed was the memory of the last war yet in the heads.

Greetings :)

Well, I am not sure that I would have selected your guys

The obvious #1 is what happened to Hitler? Some believe he could have escaped.

He’s dead (he would be 127 year this year) : )

More seriously, although circumstances of his supposed death preclude any certainties there is little doubt if according to Occam's razor (Among multiple hypotheses, the more likely is the one with the fewest number of assumptions).

When comparing the usual story (surrounded, he suicide himself in his bunker and the other members of the bunker decided to burn the body - either by respect or by fear of coming USSR soldiers) to the "run and hide" hypothesis (in an invaded country, manage to reach a submarine incognito, to flee to argentina or elsewhere, manage to stay keep a low profile for his remaining life, please note that in this hypothesis Jukov and SMERSH were purely honest with the allies as regard to their doubts) there is no doubt for me, the second one is highly improbable.

Europeans were sure that he was crazy but were also convinced he will erase Bolchevism? Bad assumptions, bad luck…

No for me the greatest mystery does not involved unknown fact but reaction impossible to understand: how could European and US have reacted as they did during the SS. Saint-Louis Odyssey?

What really happened with the Philadelphia Experiment?

"The Philadelphia Experiment is an alleged military experiment that is said to have been carried out by the U.S. Navy at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania some time around October 28, 1943. The U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Eldridge (DE-173) was claimed to have been rendered invisible (or "cloaked") to enemy devices.

The story is widely understood to be a hoax. The U.S. Navy maintains that no such experiment was ever conducted, that the details of the story contradict well-established facts about the USS Eldridge, and that the alleged claims do not conform to known physical laws..." -Wiki

What really happened to poor Glen Miller?
