Remember THIS WOMAN

Look at this woman - Let us never forget!

The world hasn't just become wicked...it's always been wicked.

The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving.
Her name is Irena Sendler
She Died 12 May 2008 (aged 98) in Warsaw, Poland
During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a plumbing/sewer specialist.
She had an 'ulterior motive'.
She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews (being German).
Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger children).
She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the infants' noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family.
Most had been gassed. Those children she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
President Obama won one year before becoming President for his work as a community organizer for ACORN
Al Gore won also --- for a slide show on Global Warming.
In MEMORIAM - 63 YEARS LATER
We're doing our small part by posting this message.
I hope you'll consider doing the same...
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
This posting stands as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated!
Now, more than ever, with Iran, and others, claiming the HOLOCAUST to be 'a myth'.
It's imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.

I have much respect for this brave woman, but I do not like how her memory is being used to promote a political agenda.

What a true hero eh? And despite all the risks she took and the horrid beating she endured, she lived on. As did the kids she got out. So frikken brave.

@Bulletpoint what political agenda are you referring to? I'm asking genuinely and innocently.
Is it the reference to the American politicians Obama and Gore?
As an aside, I couldn't care less about this 'left or right' extreme, the angry craze that is sweeping the world, so I've got no hidden agenda.

No reflection on Obama or Gore, but they seemed to have been given prizes before they even did anything, other than make some speeches.
...I had a quick look at the list. Obama was awarded in 2009. I couldn't see a reference to Gore. Maybe he was just a nominee at some stage.

Orating a stirring speech is one thing. But the people who should be awarded this prize are those who have made long term efforts and sacrifices for humanity.
There are doctors and scientists and researchers and human rights advocates who had done amazing things. A lifetime of effort and sacrifice.

After writing and thinking some more, I suspect that what you're saying @Bulletpoint is that with the huge list of nominees and winners over the decades,
the mention of two American politicians is totally unnecessary and irrelevant. It is just an unwelcome distraction in an otherwise inspiring true story.

No, I don't think so.
His problem, and mine too, is not this incredibly brave woman's story, but the last three sentences in the narrative.
The writer, and his organization, are deceptively using Ms Sendler as a jump start for their position opposing semitism.
The whole thing leaves me a bit confused. Who/how, exactly am I supposed to go protest against this?
Am I supposed to start an argument with those that are in denial about the Holocaust?
I'm too busy with the anti vaxxers, flat earthers, dems and anti masks to get into yet another dispute!
As usual, my mileage is likely different than most others.

Oh! That bit didn't register on the first read (surprisingly - but my thought was on other sections at the time).
I see. It does seem a bit tacked on doesn't it. I guess this is indeed a story that includes a call for 'anti-holocaust-deniers'.

I was chatting to a friend recently about what a strange world we live in.
The internet has become a double edged sword.
I've got the equivalent of the Library of Alexandria and the whole set of Encyclopedia Britannica in my pocket.
And yet so many people seem to be truly living in ignorance. Not just opinions - basic facts based on science (and common sense).

Aristotle declared that the Earth was a sphere in 350 BC.
Galileo Galilei was imprisoned by the Catholic Church in 1633, for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun.
And here we are, in the year 2020. Instead of flying around in our own space ships, we've got people who fervently believe the Earth is flat.
Sweet Jesus. You've got to laugh so that you don't fall into despair.

I have to keep reminding myself that there ARE lots of balanced (non-psychopathic), intelligent folks that share this planet...they just don't get the spotlight as much.

I thought it showed the Irony that American Presidents and Vice Presidents who were just doing their job got the award where a woman who risked her life daily and saved thousands was overlooked.
The 'participation award generation' is going to be the end of the world as we know it........good or bad.......that's for history to decide

My problem with this post is that there's a clear political payload: To make the reader feel angry at the US Democrats and Iran and to support the State of Israel and justify their actions. I don't have a horse in this race either, but I just don't like it when I feel someone is trying to manipulate me.

This is how I see the text being manipulative:

We start out by being told the world is wicked. OK, so now we mentally lock the front door and feel a little afraid.

Then we hear about Irena Sendler's amazing courage. We of course feel sympathy for this woman who fought against the wicked world outside.

Fair enough.

But then the post starts trying to portray it as a great injustice that Sendler was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize but didn't get it. However, this is false, because the nominees for the prize are always kept in secret. So we don't know if she was nominated or not.

Also, that prize is NOT awarded for personal bravery and humanitarian work. It is awarded "to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

Mrs. Sendler was a hero, but her heroism was on a personal level to save individual children.

Also, Sendler was not overlooked by the "wicked world".

"Among the many decorations Sendler received were the Gold Cross of Merit granted her in 1946 for the saving of Jews and the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest honour, awarded late in Sendler's life for her wartime humanitarian efforts." (Wikipedia)

Then the post tries to provide a target for our anger by introducing Obama and Gore.

I agree that it was premature to give the prize to Obama before he took office, but he was NOT given the prize for anything to do with ACORN. The stated reason he got awarded was his stance on nuclear nonproliferation, cooperation with the Muslim world, and his support of the UN.

Also, Gore got it together with the IPCC for working to raise awareness on climate change. I won't go into that and I'm not a fan of Al Gore. But dismissing all this work as a "slide presentation" is disingenious.

In the end, the reader's attention is turned to Iran. It's never stated outright, but Obama, Gore, The UN System, climate change, The Nobel Peace Prize, and Iran are portrayed as wicked forces that are somehow opposing Mrs Irena Sendler.

Now, I'm not naive - Iran is not some harmless innocent country. And it's not ok to deny the holocaust happened.

But I think the point of producing posts like these are to use the memory of a WW2 hero to keep people in a mindset where Jews are always seen as innocent victims by default, and therefore the actions of the state of Israel are always justified. And any political critiscism - even from Jews inside Israel - is dismissed as either anti-semitism or at least enabling anti-semitism that will lead to another holocaust. To control people, it's very useful to keep them afraid and angry.

The reason this kind propaganda is so effective is that it's very difficult to say "hey, wait a minute" without immediately being seen as insensitive, or even just another wicked enemy of Mrs. Sender, Jews in general, etc.

My self I just felt that mentioning This great work that Irena Sendler did was worth a mention, read what you like into the things you brought up, worth analysing, perhaps,

I saw another lengthy article on Irena as well as the original post written about her heroics.
It's mildly interesting to look at the original writing and then see how and where our political poster took it over for his/her own agenda.

I've been trying to learn how to analyse and evaluate information out there more effectively.
I don't always have the time (or even inclination) to research every bit of news or info that crosses my path...
...but just getting into the habit of paying attention will start to hone my skills.

P.S. What a kind face Irena Sendler has. :giggle:
